guardians of being

been meaning to post this shot & it's not intended to be a tear jerker - just a celebration of true friendship
this is my nephew frank - his little dog ralphie was killed in a car accident a couple of days ago and this loss is huge - my sister and i feel that ralphie was around to bring an element of pure unconscious joy during a particularly tough time - only 8 months old, but around long enough to lift my dad's spirits & provide lightness and love during some difficult times

i also love frank's face struggling with a beautiful dilemma - what to do about his braces?! - big open mouthed smile or well, this face :o)

guardians of being is the title of a wonderful little book of drawings and quotes by eckhart tolle
What sad sad news about Ralphie :(

It is a tearjerker -- it can't help but be. What a joyous little puppy and to have been so meaningful in such a short time is striking. Tough loss for all...
I did smile about the braces. It's been 50 years since I wore them, but I still remember the dilemma!

Oh that is very sad Catherine, especially after your family have been through such a difficult time - seems very cruel. Bless little Ralphie, what a special puppy he was.

The expression is precious. The pup, what a sweetie. So sorry for the loss. This is a beautiful photo, though, and made me smile even despite the sad story. Fav!

Oh what a precious photo. My sympathies to you, it is surprisingly painful to lose a pet.

Such a sad story about his little dog, love your capture of friendship and the ambiguity of growing up being in a stage between two worls ( my English is to limited to express what I mean sorry) fav

What a fabulous photograph...a treasure that hopefully in time will help Frank's pain and make him smile at the remembrance of happy times with Ralphie, albeit too brief. So sad.

Oh so sad - he looks such a grogeous little puppy. I am glad they are getting another one. Your nephew has such a lovely face - he will be gorgeous when he gets rid of his braces and has the confidence to smile!!

What a lovely story and a beautiful shot! I love the expression on your nephew's face. I have an Eckhart Tolle book but not that one :)

Lovely sentiment. I love the dog's pose, being so relaxed in Frank's arm. And Frank's expression! ...as if there's something wrong with braces! :)

@yaorenliu :o) i think if frank put his hand in his hair then he could do an impersonation of Stan Laurel !

I'm so sorry to hear about Ralphie's accident and hope that pictures like this will always bring good memories. Love the part about the braces- I don't know too many kids who want to smile when they have them on- but can't stop smiling when they come off!
