Another day, another hole.
I had to go out to Wai-iti this morning to see a client so I took the opportunity to pop down to the beach as well. The tide was coming in and the light was not the best for photography as it is a very dull and over cast day today, not to mention the rain. Apparently there is also a thriving blue penguin colony on this beach but they obviously had more sense than to be out and about in inclement weather.
I'm now shooting in RAW. I don't know why I wasn't before.
I am a confirmed and certifiable nutbar with a penchant for skulls, bones, blood, guts, fire and anything slightly peculiar and mostly bizarre. I also...
i'm so surprised to hear you've only just shooting in RAW. i've only just started also .. actaully i'm doing both. This is really lovely. Question - is the vignette part of the processing.. i notice there's some shadowing.
Cool shot!! Love the rocks, and especially the striations at the lower right. Great framing of the beach! I started shooting RAW about a year ago....shoot jpegs+RAW so that I can view and discard most of them, and process whatever I like in PS....really have to try Lightroom!
this is lovely and that looks like a fabulous spot for set up shots.... RAW is da bomb once ya get used to it... oh, and i read somewhere that converting to black and white is one way to get around sucky light...

This is wonderful... Marnie's word, totally "spiffing!" The details and colors are just tremendous. Total fav. I would give it a plus, but there is nothing burning in the shot. ;)
That place is awesome!! Where do you live -in New Zealand, I should have guessed, I´ve always wanted to visit there! That lonely trunk gives this so much charachter!
Has to be a fav. Just amazing. I don't do raw. No idea what to do with it. But feel it rises you up in ranking as a photographer. Its on my to do to learn list..... Its very good. Very good. No like really good.

@graemestevens well - it depends on the beach - there are those that love it RAW and those that don't - I saw a nude rock fisherman once and thought how painful if a hook went flying lol
@newbank I just downloaded and processed in Lightroom as usual, but it just seemed to be easier, more detail and "stuff". I don't know much about it sorry :( @annied He was tempting pain, suffering and an embarrassing trip to the hospital!

but seriously - I have photoshop and I had to download a RAW file thingy before I could process them - now I use it and Nik
@annied I use photoshop cs2 and it doesn't seem to fit with downloads very well... I am hoping to one day in the future get LR and a MAC.....One day......In the far far future......until then I keep going as I am. In the nude.....yeah I like being in the nude....well I do in bed in the summer.....and the shower.....oh help this is getting weird....
Great idea to take from inside the cave...lovely archway ......you could pretend that was a penguin in the entrance!
Funnily enough I have always shot in RAW until two days ago when I changed back as my iPad was getting short if space....RAW takes up so much room & to be honest for my little project JPEG is good enough. Something special & I will revert back.

I've been shooting RAW for several years now and editing in Lightroom. You get so much more to work with using raw, compared to jpg.
