Spike by graemestevens

Spike

This is what passes for a beach in South Taranaki, where the men are men and the sheep are nervous. To be fair, when the tide is out the black sands do make an appearance and it seems, on first inspection, to be a nice spot albeit quite moody - I certainly had the place to myself when I took this which is just the way I like it. I find the solitude enables me to come up with bizarre schemes for underground lairs and world domination. I also liked the spike of rock at the base of the cliff...it was busy being all "sticky uppy" and appealed immensely.
Beautifully dark and moody.

has a wonderful gloomy feeling to me....

I dig. Nice LB use. Fav!
October 17th, 2014
Great landscape. The rocks in the foreground add interest and the lines pull your eye through. Very nice.
October 17th, 2014
I like the way you have used a shallow DOF to make it bleary and gloomy. Aha lensbaby. Very effective.
October 17th, 2014
You can get your aperture right down to 1.9! Wow - makes for a super photo but the faraway cliff - beyond the sticky-uppy rock, is still a clear outline!

Really love the moodiness of this... And being the sucky grump that I am, I was really happy to see this shot after seeing a bunch of pretty puppies, bugs and flowers ;)
October 17th, 2014
Most excellent shot! I'm digging what you did with the LB!
October 17th, 2014

What a great moody shot, that bit of "sticky uppy' rock adds to the mystery. I thought it was a ghostly figure at first glance. Fav.
October 18th, 2014
Awesome lensbaby shot. I take it that not much sun baking toes on here. Especially with those sticky uppy rocks. This certainly does look like a great place to plot world domination.
October 18th, 2014
Wow, this is a great shot!

@karlow75 No sun baking at all as far as I'm aware - I'll go back in summer and check on that though, can't have commoners befouling my beach ;)
@gamelee Thanks very much - I would have been overjoyed if it was a ghostly figure...
October 18th, 2014

October 18th, 2014
Dunno Graeme that sticky uppy bit sure looks like the cloaked Grim Reaper from the anti smoke adds from years ago. Cool LB effect :)
October 18th, 2014
Lovely shot... and I appreciate the text, "when men are men, and sheep are nervous." It is already in my lexicon and I connect with the reference. :) Nothing more needs to be said about spike in the rock... nothing to see here, moving on.
October 18th, 2014

@gigiflower @graemestevens I see again the ladyeee was trying to drag you into the gutter with talk of phallic symbols - how indeed do you cope?
the idea that the rock......well it never crossed my mind - and I am sure that isn't the reason you pointed it out
October 19th, 2014
Sam
@annied @graemestevens He clearly isn't coping because he has a HANGOVER (yelling for effect). Poor thing.
