The best part of a recent conversation with my optometrist was listening to her try to delicately side step saying "now that you're over 40"...regardless of the fun that I had with that, the end result is that I have succumbed to the ravages of time and find that instead of wearing glasses just for reading I must now wear them all the time. And they're progressives, not bloody bi-focals thank you very much.
This means that I must now strive to look intelligent on all occasions and have had to alter my "leaving the house" mantra to "spectacles, testicles, wallet and watch" before I know that I'm truly ready to leave for the day.
I am a confirmed and certifiable nutbar with a penchant for skulls, bones, blood, guts, fire and anything slightly peculiar and mostly bizarre. I also...
@northy I've spent the last week practicing looking over the top of them for dramatic/intimidatory effect. So far I've managed to make a small child cry and 2 dogs bark. As for the religious reference, trust me - there's nothing to worry about. I'm not going there.
@bigugly I'm seriously considering wearing a suit and pretending to be a spy...but the progressives are taking a bit of getting used to. @photographycrazy You just had to throw that "mature" word in there didn't you? ;)
Wait for the 50+you will find that, aaaahh you will find that aaaahh, I will get back to you..I know it was life enhanceine what I had to say but I bloody lost it..aaaahhhhhhhh ¥€£|~]*~{]|§
@longexposure It was black not so long ago...no everything is grey @jack4john I don't need to what for 50+, I have that problem all the time already @juliedduncan Ha! I see what you did there! @amandal For a change, and now that I can actually see myself...yeah, nah
I hope that is not the look you gave your optometrist. It looks a little hostile! Although....I remember yelling a little "WHAT!!" when mine said I needed them. Haha...I have bifocal contact lenses.
Fantastic selfie Graeme, and the glasses suit you! Fantastic text as well - "the end result is that I have succumbed to the ravages of time " - brilliant. It's all in the mind though. All in the mind. :)
@texastrails Thank you kindly :) @kerosene You're not wrong...as long as nothing else fails me... @harbie I think this may have been the look...she quailed and quivered a bit... @golftragic Why thank you :) @spanner I know, I know, I'm just a saucy minx... @amandal mine aren't bad enough for contact yet apparently but I'm quite enjoying everything being in focus... @longexposure He's a dirty, dirty boy. I like it.
I see... I wore glasses since I was 4... Now my eye, I only use one, is getting worse. So worse that I don't need any glasses in this moment of time. Now that was a surprise!
Hubby has to do this every time but he has now had to add, hearing aids! It gave me quite a shock opening up your post and seeing you look straight at me! A good idea for a photo from others too!
Just make sure you can still lift that eyebrow so it shows above the glasses - and, if you haven't worn progressives before, practice going up and down stairs with them - I found for the first week that was the hardest thing and actually made me queasy until I got the hang of where/how to look through the right section of the glass.....
I've needed glasses for reading many years now, but refuse to carry them around with me. So I just have a pair of reading glasses everywhere I might need them, or do without. I once had to take a photo with my phone and enlarge it to be able to read it. but to be honest its not just your eyes is it Graeme!
@newbank I've done that too...embarrassing to say the least. The best bit was having these new specs and being able see...and promptly tripping up the stairs!
@graemestevens giggling like a teenage girl....maybe that's because I needed the teenage range of specs for my small head and eye position..... The things you learn when having an eye test!
@graemestevens I don't need glasses to know that I'm getting older. So many other parts of my body tell me. Both me and hubby (35 and 38) are shocked that your bodies start to age so early in life!!! One long (hopefully) descent from here on in.
The glasses suit you just fine....however, I tend to agree with @shepherdmanswife about the little goatie has to go....either that, or let it grow longer into a Fu Manchu beard for fun!
@photographycrazy You just had to throw that "mature" word in there didn't you? ;)

@shazzym Thank you kindly :)
@rosiekerr Apparent dignity but not actual dignity ;)
.....keep practising the intelligent look you haven't quite mastered it ;-) :-p
@yrhenwr You never know...
@deak68 I have had to take them off a couple of times due to queasiness...
