Shark Alley by graemestevens

Shark Alley

Affectionately known locally as "Shark Alley" this is a view of Back Beach from the top of the cliff face. It's a long way down, which is reason Number 1 for me not swimming here (I have no desire to climb back up). Reasons 2 - 4 are as follows:
2. Nature is best where it belongs (on television). There are things in there that will eat you.
3. The rips at this beach are more ripped than my incredible abs (yes, there's one big fat one)
4. I can't swim...in fact, I have trouble staying afloat in the shower.
Known as "shark alley", I cannot blame you for not wanting to dim your toes, I would be the same! Beautiful capture, Graeme. Love the low lying moody clouds and processing.

I have to fav this purely for the entertaining description. Excellent humor.

Gorgeous shot! We have nothing called shark alley where I live....maybe diamondback snake pass, though. Or scorpion gulch.

I had you pegged as one of those hip surfer dudes, like my self, you know the kind riding the big breakers saving a pretty damsel while smoking a big cigar. What always ruins it for me is the alarm going off. Another stunning shot..
August 4th, 2015
Yeah, you'd better stay where you are!

Let's see we have a Shark Valley and an Alligator Alley. But no Shark valley although the plenty of people get bit by the up & down the coast. I quit swimming in the ocean the day it was covered in Man of Wars! This is a great capture as usual!
August 4th, 2015
Well you've certainly made this look foreboding Graeme... I think I would prefer to stay with you at the top snapping, rather than go down to the beach and get snapped at!
August 4th, 2015
@susanalena Thank you very much - best to stay out I feel, if for nothing else than the preservation of my legs.
@beschnett Thank you kindly, I would be nothing without the ability to laugh at myself.
@blueberry1222 I like the sound of Scorpion Gulch. I might ask the local council if we can put on of those in...
@jack4john I have been known to stand on the ironing board and pretend to "hang ten dude" but that's as far is goes...and thank you
@mastermek Absolutely, I like my limbs too much
@janiskay Thanks very much - why does no one have a Marshmallow Alley?
@vignouse As if the sharks in the water weren't bad enough there's even TOURISTS!!!
August 4th, 2015
@graemestevens now that is a good question!
August 4th, 2015
Wonderfully ominous... Now all you need is a couple of shark fins ;p
August 4th, 2015
You and Mick Fanning both! Love the shot, you've captured the foreboding atmosphere perfectly. BTW, your reasons for not dipping a toe in there all sound very sensible.
August 4th, 2015
Looks like a nice place though...just don't go in the water! take pics only!
August 4th, 2015
Good plan on staying out of the water! amazing shot!
August 4th, 2015
What a challenge! Love those rocks.
August 4th, 2015
Too funny! I don't swim in the St Johns River cause there are things that eat people, alligators. So I know the feeling. Ok, wonderful pic. Nice highlights on the waves and foreboding sky!
August 4th, 2015
Very good reason all! And the name....looks and sounds forbidding.
August 4th, 2015
I prefer to look and take pictures. We've never really just hung out at a beach for the day. We all sunburn too easily. But our local beaches here in North Carolina are having a similar issue with sharks this year.
August 4th, 2015
@homeschoolmom We burn as well - I blame my Scottish heritage...
@texastrails Yes indeed - it's a popular surfing beach though but the sharks are often spotted in the summer.
@photographycrazy Thanks very much - I also look terrible in speedos so there's no chance anyway, life threatening creatures or not.
@bigugly It's not for me I'm afraid (no really, I am)...and thank you
@lsanderson55 Thanks very much - who needs to get that wet anyway?
@nanderson It's my favourite beach despite all the dangers...
@golftragic I don't know that I'd have the courage to hit one though, so best to just stay out ;)
@northy Those are in my shed. When I do go swimming I'm sure to wear them ;)
August 4th, 2015
Ah, you kiwi's - Mick Fanning wouldn't have a problem! Haha
August 4th, 2015
And here I thought Shark Alley was the back street you went to, to arrange a high interest loan.
August 4th, 2015
@888rachel He wouldn't, but you'd have to get me in the water first!
@gardencat Maybe this is where they put all the bodies...
August 4th, 2015
@graemestevens You'll have lots of company in that case!
August 4th, 2015
@888rachel Kiwis are such wimps hey Rach hahaha
I am going in with a croc next week hooefully...if it eats me more fool him...bad indigestion would follow
August 4th, 2015
Love the movement of the water
August 4th, 2015
@annied Not all of us, just me. I just happen to like breathing. Are we talking croc reptile or are you buying new summer footwear?
August 4th, 2015
@graemestevens ha ha the reptile variety...I would feed the footwear to the chipper :)
August 4th, 2015
@graemestevens btw I am looking forward to you with a flower
August 4th, 2015
@annied yes, that Flora theme came as a nasty surprise.
August 4th, 2015
@graemestevens i bet it did hahahahaha
August 4th, 2015
@annied I might have to go a bit freaky on it
August 4th, 2015
It's a good shot though
August 4th, 2015
@shepherdmanswife thank you :)
August 4th, 2015
Very nice :)
August 4th, 2015
@graemestevens i never doubted it :)
August 4th, 2015
Looks a great place Graeme, Wonderful capture...
August 4th, 2015
Saw your comment to @vignouse and I have to agree the tourist are scarier then the sharks. ANd they snag the best parking places and fill up our favorite restaurants. A necessary evil I tell myself.
August 4th, 2015
nice view
August 4th, 2015
Just a hint of danger, great in b&w
August 4th, 2015
wow a stunning image in b&w!! Love the mood that the sky creates! and best you not swim in there indeed!
August 4th, 2015
Amazing shot! The name is a bit off-putting, but it still looks like a great beach!
August 4th, 2015
Fantastic!
August 4th, 2015
@ukandie1 Thank you kindly :)
@nitrogene Thanks very much - once you're lost all your limbs you soon get over it ;)
@nicoleterheide Thank you kindly - I never do ;)
@ceilidh Thanks very much - I like a hint of danger
@kali66 It's not too bad, bit of a climb though
@joansmor They should be banned ;)
@tonygig Thank you kindly - I had to liven it up somehow!
@hermann Thanks very much :)
August 4th, 2015
Loved your four reasons for not swimming there, along with the image itself. I do enjoy your b&w beach shots.
August 4th, 2015
Yipes and count me out. Gorgeous view.
August 4th, 2015
@taffy Thank you very much - they're all valid reasons...I think ;)
@amandal Thanks very much - I like to watch the foolhardy from up here ;)
August 5th, 2015
Beautiful shot Graeme, love the description too :) Great call about staying near this POV too!
August 5th, 2015
@kerosene Thank you kindly, best to stay away from shark infested waters I find ;)
August 5th, 2015
Great B&W!
August 5th, 2015
@harbie Thanks very much :)
August 5th, 2015
Lou
You're becoming quit the landscapist. I like it a lot.

A friend of mine recently found a dead mountain lion on his property. I'm trying to talk him out of the skull but it's not looking favorable. Any tips?
August 5th, 2015
Quite nice but where's the drama? C'mon can't you photoshop in a person drowning or, better still, being attacked by a shark? :-)
August 5th, 2015
@louuncouth Sneak in under cover of darkness? And thank you :)
@yrhenwr I don't have photoshop so in this case...I am the drama ;)
August 5th, 2015
Nice shot!! Seriously, you can't swim?! I don't believe it for a moment....sounds like you might be lacking basic survival skills at that part of your world.
August 6th, 2015
@panthora Not really, I tend to sink like a stone...I must buy a boat...
