Which is exactly where I should be after last nights efforts. I woke this morning regretting several of my liquid refreshment choices from last night, however I have now hosed myself off and taken some pain killers. The world is once again full of rabbits, rainbows and fluffy kittens. Where did I put my flame thrower?
I'll be away for a few days - tomorrow Mrs S and I are taking our 18 (soon to be 19) year old daughter to Auckland airport. She flies out tomorrow for a year in the UK where she will be working in a private preparatory school at East Grinstead for her Gap Year.
She is ready, we are not.
I am a confirmed and certifiable nutbar with a penchant for skulls, bones, blood, guts, fire and anything slightly peculiar and mostly bizarre. I also...
Well that is a gruesome start to the year. I too forgot my age last night and had apparently forgotten how mixing drinks is not such a good idea. I was heading home but then they started playing Pink Floyd "Dark side of the Moon" so I stayed and played - and this morning I paid!
I can relate about the the 18 year old leaving home - exciting for her though. Only one of my three sons actually came back to live in NZ - just saying.. Happy New Year anyway.
My heart goes out to you both! 14 years ago we farewelled our daughter of the same age for 3 months... she stayed 12 and brought home her future husband and they are now living in Canada.
@bella_ss She's under strict instructions that boyfriends and babies will not be tolerated ;) @linnypinny Thank you very much :) @adi314 Thanks very much - it's a big, brave move but a hell of an opportunity as well. @harbie On some levels, yes :) @kiwinanna She's been wanting to back to the UK since we moved home so it's no surprise...but still...
This is a wonderful picture, as always. And I’m sure it will be a great opportunity for your daughter. Young people (and also not so young ones) need to move and be exposed to different ways of living and seeing the world. By the way, my son spent a year
In East Grinstead working and learning at the famous Victoria Hospital. It ha done him a lot of good…and he’s come back! So many wishes to you and yours. Looking forward to a great year of scary pictures ahead!
And I thought you might have been in quarantine due to a natural illness (like I should be right now) not a self-induced one. Good luck with the airport departure and make sure you have some tissues on hand, as I know deep down you are a softie at heart.
Oh, what a great start for your daughter. I wish her the very best on this adventure. Wishing you the best of everything too. What ever is the best for you. Happy New Year.
@mona65 Thank you and you too - it's a huge opportunity for her. @blueberry1222 We'll get by...she'll have a blast..slightly jealous ;) @novab The tissues are in every pocket I can find... @shannejw It's big move but a huge opportunity...and thank you @koalagardens Hoses and painkillers - I thank her daily for those ;) And yes, it happens too quickly but it can't be stopped. @caterina I'm sure she'll come back - we lived in the UK for 7 years and managed to make it back - huge opportunity for her... @newbank Indeed. @brigette A huge opportunity...slightly jealous as well
Well that is just so you. Happy New Year to you. My son goes and comes back. He's still in a "failure to launch" mode. But he's trying. Not easy for young people in California. Too expensive to live here now.
Put on some Big Country and a little of the hair of the dog that bit you. What does one wish you at the start of a new year, a very gritty B&W one maybe.
@golftragic I don;t know that I'm reassuring... @jack4john That should do the trick ;) @joemuli Thank you and you too :) @haskar Thanks very much :) @joysfocus Thank you and you too :)
@fbailey This one is a respirator, usually used around chemicals, paint etc...
It's a huge adventure and/or opportunity for her...she has arrived as of this morning...

A big event to start off 2019.
