Well, we're back from Auckland and Kyra has arrived in Dubai en route to the UK. She'll be there for 3 days for some sight seeing and a little bit of "induction training" before flying onwards.
She's sharing a room with a another girl from NZ who is also going to be working in the same school and by all accounts they get on very well thus far.
Having said that, the airport was no fun as farewells were said, tears shed, last minute advice given and hugs handed out.
I am a confirmed and certifiable nutbar with a penchant for skulls, bones, blood, guts, fire and anything slightly peculiar and mostly bizarre. I also...
Hope your daughter has a fantastic experience! My daughter studied in Germany for a year when she was 16. It was really hard to let her go but the experience of a lifetime!! Love this photo!!
We have just been through all this only the other way round! Son & DIL just at Dubai enroute to Auckland. Exciting stuff for daughter but not so good for parents at home, as long as she’s happy that’s all that mattered. Great photo....fave!
The words 'airport' and 'fun' should never be seen in conjunction!!! Can't find Wally, but I'm sure he's lurking there somewhere. Rest assured, your daughter should have a wonderful time.
What a sweet commentary...you've given us a window into another side of you. As an educator, I can only say that having this experience abroad is something that can never be replicated in a classroom. Wishing her a wonderful trip and you a sense of pride in what she's doing.
A change from your usual offering but I really like. Hope you adjust to what I'm sure must be a quieter life but perhaps not a quieter one your ready for?
Great shot. Love the straight lines and that there is no lens distortion. I understand your feelings, but please be proud, that she widens her horizon. This is a great experience. Probably this is the right time to open your house for a greyhound that needs a kind home.
ugh you got that right - airports are no fun at all. however many times we do it, i lose it. understand your feelings a little, with son and daughter-in-law-to-be in sydney. but hopefully this will be a wonderful experience for your daughter ... and your image is top notch - love the detail and colours
It's hard on parents, but your daughter will have a wonderful experience and learn so much about herself. What I like about this photo is the blue tones, wavery reflections, and the fact that you can see the teeny, tiny little furniture in the upper windows. Fav.
Cracking shot mate, those reflections look amazing. As for the parenting thing - well. we've got the leaving home bit to come. Maybe you can give us some tips :/
@haskar Thanks very much :) @paul10 Thank you sir - Tip 1: Roll with it. It sucks but it would be worse if they didn't go! @juliedduncan Thank you very much - she will have a blast I'm sure @emrob Thank you very much :) @blueberry1222 Thank you kindly ;) @gamelee Thank you very much :) @pistache Thank you very much - she'll have fun, an adventure or two and at some point come back... @jamibann Thank you very much - I'm sure we'll all make it through ;) @shannejw Thanks very much - it is sad, but we did it once and had our time so it's her turn :) @joansmor We will but there's face time and Skype which we never had when we left home to travel so long ago... @mona65 Thanks very much - you could well be right about that Greyhound...we shall see ;) @dibzgreasley Thanks very much :) @newbank Thank you kindly - I'm sure we'll adjust. We did it to our folks when we left and travelled and it has to be done :) @dide Thank you and yes, one she has been looking forward to, we've already done and she was ready for :) @taffy That'll have to stop - there goes that typecasting ;) It's an adventure that she's been looking forward to - we did it and so should she :) @domenicododaro It's not easy, but then the good things aren't and this is her, being who she should be :) @golftragic She will have a good time - she better :) @byrdlip I'm sure she will - and yes, well spotted :) @happypat Quite so - if she's happy, I'm happy :) @harbie Thanks and yes - difficult but worth it :) @lyndamcg Well don't tell everyone! We lived over there for 7 years and she's been wanting to get back since we moved home in 2010 so yes, I'm sure she'll be fine ;)
Great reflection - so much to look at - I feel your pain - I took my eldest to uni and watching him wave at me in the rear mirror was awful - I had to stop around the corner as I was crying so much. She'll have a wonderful time
@vignouse I did threaten to have a t-shirt printed with "gas mask man" on it... @robz It does give us an excuse.... @ingrid2101 Thanks and yes, we were much the same once she'd gone through the departure gates! @Dawn Thank you - I'm sure she will :)
I so hope she settles well and the UK doesn't let her down. You will learn to adapt I'm sure but the parting is always difficult. You took a great shot here by the way.
@helenhall Thanks very much - she's been wanting to go back since we moved back to NZ so it was no surprise - she touched down today and all is well, she's at the school she'll be working at and unpacked, ready to start work tomorrow
Haven't had to let go yet, they (my sons) are still in college and can't afford to leave. Do very much like the variety in this image, one could spend a great deal of time exploring it.
Here's to your daughter having a safe trip and a wonderful experience in the UK teaching.
