Cicadas mean summertime in the South. Their chirping sound signifies the beginning of hot weather. Occasionally l have seen one flying around and occasionally l have seen the discarded exoskeleton. Today for the first time I watched as a cicada emerged from his shell. I didn't know that, like the new leaves of Spring, the cicada starts out green fresh from his old skeleton which is brown. You can see the slit in the back of the shell where he came out .
Amazing isn't it dad?♥
Brilliant! I'm never at the right place at the time to see something actually emerge but it's something I really want to watch! I have found cases of emerged insects before but would love to watch it happen!

as long as it's not a snake, i can look at this. in fact, in my very younger years, i used to have a collection of bug's dresses is what i called them. a most excellent capture, my friend.
We don't have Cicadas here in L.A. at all but when I went down south during the summer as a teen I heard them EVERYWHERE! So cool to see how they actually look. Their backsides kind of look like baby rattles!
Wow!! I've been listening to cicadas most of my life, but have never seen one emerge from its old shell. Besides being interesting, it's a great shot with nice detail.
@deb60 you are so welcome. I'm glad you like it @daisyditch thank you so much Daisy. I really appreciate it. @summerfield i'm really glad this when I didn't offend your sensibilities. It doesn't surprise me you used to collect them. Thank you so much. @dishaparekh176 thanks especially for that FAV Disha. @alophoto I don't think they stay green I think they turn brown but I'm not positive. @cjphoto i'm really glad to be able to show this to you Chris.
