Decoration Day originally conceived to honor the dead of the US Civil War has evolved into Memorial Day to honor the dead of our many wars. For so many it has become a day off of work and an unofficial beginning to summer. For way too many it is the day that we recognize the sacrifices made by family members and friends AND the service men and women who gave their lives for our freedoms. To wish someone tomorrow a "Happy Memorial Day" is a bit of an oxymoron.
