A bobbin is small spool that holds the thread that forms the stitches on the bottom side of the fabric that is being sewn. My machine has a top loading bobbin which looks similar to all machines with a top loading design. Some machines have a front loading design.

Ah yes I know this. Wouldn't it be great if they had a bunch of different bobbin stations underneath so you could just connect to the next one when one ran out....I hate running out of bobbin thread.😧
