i wish i had that in grade 5 for home economics. but neat embroidery was my saving grace with mrs. nolan. i got a dismal grade in crochet and tatting although i did learn how to crochet in high school. i might borrow that when i travel back to 1963. want to come along?
Pretty sure I wouldn’t want to do HS over. But I would dearly love to be able to time travel just to be a fly on the wall and see all sorts of things in the past.
Regarding the sewing machine, if I had it it would be like my washer and dryer I buy a machine with a bunch of choices and then consistently just use one 🤣
I like this keypad. Mine's an old singer so I have to "read" the drop in discs. @summerfield I think it's great that they taught those needlework subjects in school. We got basic sewing and cooking and reconciling a checkbook in Home Ec in 7th grade. No return to jr. or sr. high for me.
This looks like one of my medical charts- haha! Fancy machine- I still have the machine I received from my parents when I was still in college. It had some nice top stitches but not as many options as this. I haven't used it in ages! I'm sure it desperately needs to be oiled.
@mcsiegle LOL! I do pretty much the same thing with this Mary. I need to branch out a bit! @randystreat I have a singer that had drop in discs for fancy stitches but have lost the discs a long time ago! @milaniet let me tell you how wonderful it is! You can use just a plain zigzag to do it too. Set the stitch length to zero and drop the feed dogs. Just measure the stitch width before you start @homeschoolmom you will next year! @louannwarren I know. The story of my life getting something AFTER I no longer really need it! @dutchothotmailcom mostly just 1,2,5,and 9 @taffy it really is and so helpful at times @Dawn defoinitely. I will probably do the same one day if any of mine express an interest in sewing @madamelucy I don'[t remember if I used that or just the zigzag. see my comment to milanie. You just need to hand feed the needle to the correct width and I start with had feeding to make sure it is right before I use the foot pedal @ludwigsdiana this makes it quick to choose and the button one is amazing and quick to do buttons as opposed to hand sewing! You should give it a try! @olivetreeann can I tell you how marvelous it is to get a comment from you! There is so much I wanted to say this morning but I was on my way to the pregnancy center when I saw your post! Welcome back♥ I am sure your medical charts looked way more complicated than this! @linnypinny I have my grandmother's and I don't know who got mom's but I already have three counting this one , two sergers and another embroidery machine besides this one!
So many stitiches! Do you use the automatic button sewing? It caught my eye because I recently realized that my granddaughter, who lived with us through high school, does not know how to sew on a button. My fault for not teaching her.
I like others' memories of home ec classes, where we not only learned to sew on buttons but had to make a skirt and blouse and WEAR the outfit to school!
These are just the utility stitches too. When I sew a button I usually just use a zigzag stitch set to 0 length and lower the feed dogs. Sadly button sewing , although a pretty basic skill, Is something lots of people don't know how to do anymore!
