Tall Cotton by grammyn

Tall Cotton

As l looked across the cotton field today I noticed this one in the distance standing head and shoulders above the rest. ln the days when picking cotton by hand was back breaking work this would have been a cotton pickers dream. Walking in tall cotton came to mean doing well .
At my sister's suggestion I have entered this is the songtitle challenge with this song by the band Alabama

So fun to see it as it grows! Such an important crop!! We'd be unclothed without it!!
A Count Basie song if you want to add to the song title... https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zj0rjyuglcM

Also another song called "High Cotton" https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IhsbhbnKoR0

What a fabulous picture showing up close what these plants are like. Amazing that someone thought of actually making cloth out of these little puff balls.

Great shot of these lovely cotton puffs, what would we be wearing without them.

Wow! So beautiful

Interesting plant. Makes me realise how much I take cotton for granted without thinking about where it comes from.

Great shot- I remember watching Places in the Heart where Sally Fields and several others are picking cotton and by the end of the day her hands are bleeding. Never really did fully understand the ending of that movie, but I think it did depict what you were describing about harvesting cotton fairly well.

I had a general idea about that phrase but good to see your example.

@summerfield thanks for all your positive comments and yes they self pollinate but also bees and butterflies do some of the work!

@randystreat Thank you Kathy! I struggled with how to make it interesting
@lesip It looks kind of like a field of snowballs and I will gladly take you to many of them if you visit in October next year! I wouldn't want to pick it either!
@olivetreeann Thanks Ann I don't think I saw that movie and thankfully now almost all cotton is harvested with huge machines.
@tunia It is something I never thought about at all until I moved here
