I researched pink lizard in Texas and came up with a Wood Slave Gecko that looks like what I have taken a photo of. I have been seeing these pinkish reptiles for a while, but did not know what they were. This one is a little worse for the wear, as something has injured it's head, tail and by the right shoulder. Perhaps a bird or cat. My husband got quite a laugh as a bug buzzed by my ear just as I finished taking the last photo, because I jumped and ran.
Thanks to everyone for their comments on yesterdays photo and any comments or suggestions on this one.
the geckos are resilient little creatures, aren't they? When I first moved here I'd had very very limited experience with lizards. While I thought they were cute I had no idea not to catch them by their tails. Until one failed attempt when the tail was still in my hand but the lizard was nowhere to be found. I screamed something fierce when I realized the tail was still wriggling on its own.
@janek Thanks for the comment. When I researched him, I could not find where they got the name. I am not sure that they are native to Texas or if they are a transplant from another country.
@sitiodown He froze when the light came on, I think he was trying to blend into the bricks so not to be seen. He is one of the larger ones that I have seen here. There are some very small, very quick lizards around here. They will scoot into the house before you, if you happen not to notice them. Those are the ones that scare me. I prefer them outside!
poor little guy! this shot makes me somewhat homesick for my native florida....it's been years since i have seen one as they don't do very well up here in illinois. i also like the brick behind him. great capture!
