I am sure I only revisit water-drop shots to remind myself how mind-numbingly tedious it can be! No water-crown-on-daisy today, but like many of my projects it migrated into a shot I rather favor anyway. I will eventually improve on this old shot of mine: http://365project.org/grizzlysghost/365/2012-03-13
Background is crumpled up foil (the kind you wrap your food in), crumpled then laid flat on a cutting board and propped up behind the display as a backdrop; I find crumpled tinfoil makes wonderful bokeh because you can then flash any color of light at it to get different results. Daisy is secured in a lump of clay, also wrapped in foil.
Lighting provided by an off-camera diffused flash I'm holding in my hand to the left of the daisy.
your spot on with the foil idea. I must try this one day. If I am honest I find the tin foil on the bottom of the daisy a little distracting. I would love to see it cropped out and just the daisy and strem in view. Thats just my opinion. Hope you dont mind. Amazing shot out the daisy and bokeh though
Reminds me of when I was doing this shot way back near the beginning of my project.. Its not an easy thing to do for sure.. Took me ages.. and I don't intend to try again.. yet.. Bravo :)
Thanks for the info on how you accomplished this I could have used it yesterday for my background on photo I did instead of using a curtain Definitely going to try this
You just amaze me!! Found this one on the P.P. !! Not surprised! It jumped right out at me! Thank you for telling us how you did this...although i would love to try it..i do not usually like to copy someone's original work! But food for thought! :) FAV!
Awesome... I like it better than your other one you linked ;) So glad to see someone else uses a cutting board to hold up backgrounds lol. Fav for this :)
I saw the thumbnail and fully expected to find Bennett doing the wet-dog-shake! - I think I like this for it's wildness - almost in preference to the structured beauty of a watercrown - Fav
Fave for me, Aaron. The foil idea is great - I will have to try that. I don't ever do much with lighting as I'm generally taking pics outside, but I will have to venture there at some point LOL. Thanks for all the helpful info!
Thanks for the explanation of the setup.
