Kale Chips by grizzlysghost

Kale Chips

Double exposure on Fuji film at Jake's restaurant. First exposure was of a blackboard with "foodie" quotes, and the overlapping exposure was of Jake working behind the counter.

Since this old Miranda camera does not have a "multiple exposure" feature, I pressed the button on the bottom of the camera usually reserved for rewinding the film and twisted the advance lever. Doing this releases the film spindle, but allows the shutter to be wound, thus preparing the shutter without advancing the film. Then the next exposure is taken over the top of the one you just took. This doesn't work on all cameras, but is worth a try if you're curious like me! :)

Film: Fuji 400
Process: Tetanol C-41
Camera: 1971 Miranda Sensomat RE w/50mm f/1.4

*Note: I just received this camera and lens through an ebay auction, sight unseen. The camera works well, but the lens had me worried because it has quite a lot of fungus inside (one of the inner elements is affected) and wasn't sure how that would translate into quality. From what I've observed so far, I don't think it affects quality much; in fact I'm rather pleased with the whole setup!

Included as part of "Analog August," see thread here: http://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/18765/analog-august

** And for those curious who are just joining the party, Jake is my cousin's husband... so we kind of have to hang out... :)
Cool idea! Big inspiration!

Interesting effect. Looks so much better than the in camera digital multiple exposures. Good clarity in both pictures.

As a family member, do you get free chips? Cool photo, and it brings back memories of double exposures with an old Minolta SRT201 using the same technique.
