4.38 pm: This was my view from work this afternoon - the riot police trying to control a large demonstration against major cutbacks on the arts budget. Here they are preventing the crowds from entering Parliament.
All of this meant that we were virtually prisoners in our own building. The main entrances were locked and when I attempted to leave through a side entrance I was told I could only do so at my own risk.
When I got out there was nowhere to go. My way to the station was blocked by the crowds and alternative routes were blocked by the police. Miraculously they let me through when I waved my security pass.
I then had a horrific rush hour commute in the soaring heat (it was 30 °C in the shade today) and a packed train that all of a sudden got cancelled meaning we all had to get out and cram ourselves into an already full train on the other side of the platform. Needless to say I was very glad to be home when I finally got there.
Love all the colours and atmosphere in this. Definitely too hot for messing around though - very hot and humid here too - a trip round the supermarket was excitement enough for me! Sounds like a cold beer is in order!
Good shot. We've had our fair share of disruption in London in recent months... also against budget cuts. It can be a pain when you work in the thick of it... we've been warned of a huge protest this Thursday. It is meant to be peaceful but sadly these events always act as a magnet for those who don't care about the aims but just want to create mayhem.
Daar beneden moeten mijn vrienden en collega's staan... maf idee. Kun je mij de foto mailen? Misschien kunnen we hem wel gebruiken in de krant morgen ;)
Glad you made it home ok! We have a lot of heat here now. It is in the 100 - 101 degree F here at Fort Worth, Texas USA. That would make it 38.33 Celsius, if the converter I found is working correctly.
Morgen lekker thuis, toch?
