Mantelpiece

5.34 pm: A Waldorf-like nature corner has organically formed itself on our mantelpiece next to some black&white photos of the girls. These portraits weren't taken by me but by one of the minders at the daycare center. I love how she managed to capture the girls' personalities in her photos.
Really sweet

Thos photos are really sweet! I like how the framing is so close to their faces...who needs a distracting background anyway? :-)

@5unflow3r With portraits you don't! It's one of the reasons I am not good at portraits - I always want to catch too many details in a photo...

Beautiful atmospheric shot.

@halkia It's so funny to me how, these days, portrait photographers use so very many distracting props. Seems to defeat the purpose of just having a photo of your child, looking like they do at whatever age. I strongly dislike the new kind of newborn portraits, with awkward poses, funny hats, putting them in buckets and dresser drawers. Yuck!

@5unflow3r I am definitely not into that stuff either. I have taken thousands of photos of my girls but not one of them with props like the ones you mention. My own "problem" when photographing my children is that I always seem want to show at least some of the context. So I am glad that some good portraits of them have been taken by other people :)
