Lavender by happypat

Lavender

I have spent ages taking photos in the garden this afternoon trying to crack this depth of field thing ! I took so many pictures I couldn't remember which setting I had used nor could i decide which was best ! In the end I whittled it down to this one .. the wind was blowing a bit so it's not as clear as I would have liked but better than yesterdays offering I feel ! I am going off to my fifth class tonight so we shall see if I learn anything tonight ! I have come to the conclusion it's practice, practice, practice !!! I am worn out now !!!
this is pretty! my suggestion: take 3 soup cans or something similar and line them up at home, one in front of the other, near natural light and practice like that....just an idea.

Lovely range of purples and such a beautiful wall too!! Love the light in the background. I find that the homework on top of 365 is a bit of a bind sometimes - I usually get it done at the last minute!!

IT turned out quite nice, and do not get frustrated with the DOF thing. For some people it is really easy. Try googling it for some easy to follow tips. I have never taken the time to really practicce it, but it never works for me when Iwant iot to.

I think it turned out well...and good for you for trying so hard! I agree with Stephanie @stepheesue ...great advice. I learned how to focus for DOF by lining my son's star wars toys up outside on the patio table. Helped bigtime! Good luck!

Your garden is beautiful Pat - very rustic with the terracotta wall and the old fashioned lavender. I'm enjoying your practice shots very much. Good luck with your class tonight.

@judithg @murnane I have been to class tonight & learnt about shutter speeds ! I now know how to set up my camera in manual ...allegedly !! We shall see if i forget but it is all beginning to make sense now !! I'm fed up with flowers ( not my first love )so might do something different tomorrow ! @jmj @grannysue @shutterbugger Thank you for your kind comments I am not a great gardener but do like soft country flowers that don't take much work & the flowers I took today where planted in the old wooden calf feeding trough.

I think your photography is coming along fine Pat..you've gone down low to take the photo , so you are automatically doing composition and lead in lines .

When photographing flowers and plants it is best to try and keep the background simple and clutter free.

I've known people at our camera club put a false background into macro flower work e.g. a piece of card of an appropriate colour / contrast !!!
