Just the right time for the theme 'Hero' here is our very own hero, Jenny, our Labrador who sadly we had to have put down this morning. She lived to the ripe old age of 15 years & was the best dog you could ever know. I never knew her snap or be bad tempered with any one, be it the grandchildren pulling & tugging at her, trying to get on her back or strangers she didn't know. All the B&B's made a fuss of her & she will be very sadly missed !
We have buried her in the field & planted snowdrops on the top of her grave.
Oh Pat!! What a beautiful and sad story . . I am sure that every pet owner knows exactly how you feel right now. Our pets go through so much with us in our lives, they truly are our heroes. Jenny is beautiful . . such a great photo here. God Bless her and all of you. :)
Sorry for her, rest in peace Jenny! I know how it feels when you lose such a friend which has been with you for so many years. But, if she lived till this ripe old age - she must have been happy with her owner - or better to say - her family!:)
Gorgeous, dearest, grey-haired and much beloved hero!
@karenann Thank you so much Karen for those lovely words, we are upset but know she was weary of life so is at rest.
I am way behind with my commenting please all forgive me !
I really feel for you Pat , Jenny having been part of your 0f your family for all those years. But it's the kindest thing to do to let her go ,with out suffering. we are still feeling at a loss with out Snowy and we only had him for about 6 yrs. but we have been in regular contact with his new owners and they say he is very happy.
Oh Pat ....i'm so full of tears :( We had to put our lovely Sunny ( yellow lab ) down 2 yrs ago . They have a way of touching a very special place in our hearts .....a peaceful companion unlike anyother . I have yet to bring myself to scatter her ashes in the Bay ....she was so happy there , but i'm not ready to let her go . Wish I was there to give you a BIG hug XOXO
@snowy Thank you Diana, dogs become such a part of your lives but live such a relatively short time sometimes you wonder if it's worth the upset & i think it's worse the older you get !! I am sure you miss Snowy & will wonder if you did the right thing but so good you can still visit him when he is more settled "!! You need to be fit in the legs for a dog !!
@jquinn You are so kind Janet & thank you for those lovely words if you have had a Labrador you know what gentle dogs they are !! The time will come when you are ready to let your Sunny go perhaps when the time comes to move permanently to the new beach house !
I'm so sad to hear about my namesake. A dog often has such empathy and seems to understand our moods and feelings in a special way. It sounds as if your Jenny had a lovely nature. A big hug from Scotland to you tonight.
I'm so sorry to hear that Pat. Jenny sounds like she was a lovely friend and I'm sure you will miss her terribly. My parents have lost 2 goldens, both to cancer and both at the age of 6. It's hearbreaking. Take care xo
@jmj@shutterbugger Thank you two Jennifers for your kind thoughts on our Jenny, you are all so kind !!! We are lucky that we still have Tui so are not dog less thank goodness ! She is looking a bit lost too !
Oh Pat, I'm so sorry -that's three dogs this week including@ottery 's beautiful Bobby http://365project.org/ottery09/365/2011-12-01 and my friend's old rescue dog, Bella. It's definitely the kindest thing for them (shame we humans are so far behind really) but very sad - I bet Harry's really going to miss her too - and Tui... she'll have to have extra treats. Sounds like a beautiful place to be buried.
Such a sad time but lovely that we have the option of giving them a humane ending unlike what happens to we humans. They are such giving and faithful dogs. A big hole in your lives now.
Its Jo in N.Z here (Pats daughter in law), sorry have hacked into you again to put a comment about Jenny, hope you don't mind. She was definately the nicest dog in the world. We had so many adventures with her & she never stopped wagging her tail. She'll definately be wagging it in heaven now. Wish we could have given you a goodbye hug Jenny but you knew we loved you so much. Jo, Anthony & Max x
@judithg Thank you Judith I don't think this col weather helped it was so cold for her going out side we felt bad making her go !! never mind she had a good life & were able to end it when it became necessary !!
@phil_howcroft Yes I thought regular followers would know when they saw her photo up, I nearly left it until tomorrow as we hadn't spoken to the NZ side yet & didn't want them to find out from here but have let them know now. We have been so touched by the kind words of you all , thank you so much for the 'wave' Phil !
@happypat Hi Jo I thought you might write on here & know you were expecting it but still the end of an era !! Harry is sad but OK & we are making a fuss of Tui !! Talk soon lots of love to you ,Ant & Max xxx
I believe that our time with our animals is a gift. How amazing that Jenny was in your lives for 15 years. Still it must be so hard to say farewell. I'm so sorry. Sending virtual hugs to you xo
Pat, so sorry to hear for your loss. Reminds me of our Golden Retriever Jamie. . . who also was very kind to all around her, even the kids who would pull and tug at her. Sounds like, as Jamie was to us, Jenny was a gift to you and your family.
@stepheesue@winemonologues@steeler Thank you very much for your kind thoughts, we feel better this morning & it's so windy here would have been terrible sending her out in this !!!
It's always a sad day when the time comes. But we always knew such a day would come. However, knowing that doesn't make it any easier. I still miss my Jack Russels not matter how many years pass. All you can do is think that they had the happiest time with you and that such a life as they had is the best time spent. I'm sorry to hear about Jenny and I know she will be missed by everyone in your family, Pat.
Sorry I missed this yesterday. She was a lovely dog and you will miss her after all the years.....I guess at the most unexpected moments.
Isn't it lovely to have all these lovely comments at a time like this! And lovely too to have space of your own where you can bury her. Look forward to the snowdrops. xx
@sarah19 Thanks Sallie but we know it was time so don't feel bad today & yes all these lovely comments are so appreciated & they help so much. Cathy rang me from work today & she couldn't get over all the lovely messages on here !!
Oh Pat, I just found this. What a sad time it has been for you. We had to have our 20 year old golden retriever put down several years ago now, and we still miss her. You will really miss that beautiful temperament the hours of fun you had together. It's going to leave a huge hole in your lives, but one that is full of smiles through the tears and lots of happy stories. Love and hugs to you and Harry from Tim and I xoxoox
Oh Pat, I have just logged in tonight and seen this - I'm so sorry for your loss - Our first dog (which wasn't the first we had to put down) was the longest lived at 13 years and such a wrench for the whole family - I know how you must be feeling. I'm sure she brought you such happiness and love over the years and you'll always have her in your heart. Lovely that she is now with the snowdrops - what a lovely reminder.
@murnane@sparkle@islawight We have been overwhelmed by all the sympathetic & kind comments from friends on this project...it could only happen here for a dog, thank you so much !! x
Gorgeous, dearest, grey-haired and much beloved hero!
I am way behind with my commenting please all forgive me !
I remember you posting a picture a while ago saying she was very old and frail :(
Just remember the good times Pat ....the joy and happiness she brought to you, Harry and your family.
I just gave her a goodbye wave before i clicked 'post comment' and moved on :(
It sounds as if Jennie gave and received affection in equal measure. The very best sort of symbiosis.
Isn't it lovely to have all these lovely comments at a time like this! And lovely too to have space of your own where you can bury her. Look forward to the snowdrops. xx
