A Newspaper for Breakfast. by happypat

A Newspaper for Breakfast.

A curious luxury. Communing with the world from comfort of the breakfast table as you savour the aroma of fresh coffee. You spread yours out on the kitchen table as far as the toaster & the butter dish will allow.
Somehow the violence of the world doesn't have the same impact when it tastes of chocolate spread , gooseberry jam &toast.
Nothing really happens in your morning paper & that's why you look forward to it so much. It's a way of prolonging your hot coffee & toast. It informs you the world hasn't changed overnight & the day is in no hurry to get started !!
For retired folk only of course !!

Words taken from one of my favourite books..The Small Pleasures of Life by Phillipe Delerm.
...and for those who are not retired (but wish they were) and are always late for work. I start by reading the front page of the main section, then read the section with the local news and finally the section that has the gossip and the advice columnists. Then I read more news on the interwebs at the office.

The small pleasures indeed! I just love the porridge - that is one of my small pleasures ...............and this all reminds me I must get back to my morning run to the paper shop. Haven't done it since being ill before Christmas!

Sounds like you've done a day's work before your leausurely breakfast so you deserve it! Lovely shot, I like the style of your shots taken at home Pat.

Mmm. You can't beat a bowl of porridge. I live in an old croft house and can imagine my predecessors having a pot of porridge constantly on the hob! I'm happy to continue the tradition (although mine's made in the microwave!).

Gorgeous image and lovely, relaxing words Pat. It reminds me of the past 5 weeks while I was on holiday. Makes me look forward to the weekend doubly!

Those who do this recognise this pic. You need plenty of space for the newspaper and quiet - no people chattering at you!

Lovely pleasureful shot - I read mine without fail every day but crammed onto the Victoria line ... (usually luckily for me with a seat, being at the end of the line).

Love this composition, Pat. Such an inviting setting and beautiful warm colors. That coffee (or cuppa!) looks so good as does the porridge. I love the comment . . must try to find that book. It does sound like a good read! :)

@karenann It's quite a small thin book Karen written by a French man but available still in hard back on Amazon for around £5.95.

Oh - I just found this open on my computer with no comment!! I do love a newspaper - I like getting well in to it to the inside stuff that the TV and Radio and Internet don't cover. Gooseberry jam sounds pretty good too - I'll have to look out for that book!

Beautiful photo. Now that I am retired, I read the paper through each morning at breakfast. I used to just scan *online* versions and read through one with lunch at my desk. This is so much better.

That sounds like quite a wise book full of everyday gems. I'll have to look it up.

What a beautiful composition, Pat. This makes me want to sit at your breakfast table. I was actually telling a friend recently about how I love the photos taken in your kitchen. It looks like the perfect place to "hang out" This book you quote from sounds like something I would enjoy.
