A very wet day in Lancashire so with the bedding from five beds to wash & get dry desperation measures are in place this afternoon. We started out will all the washing blowing nicely on the line then the heavens opened while I was out re stocking my food cupboard so I have had to spin them all again. Some in the drier, some still in the basket waiting for better weather tomorrow & some drying on the Aga.
Not a very pretty or interesting post but it's what my life is today.
My nieces husband might possibly on Autumn Watch tonight , he works for the RSPB name of David. He has done lots of work for this series.
Three good things:
1. The torrential rain has cleaned up the mud which was left on the road by the maize trailers.
2. Big chocolate buttons.
3. A quiet house just for tonight.
@jantan indeed Jan....looks. Bit messy & I will have to move everything when I make supper but they are invaluable.......it is very warm here still but wet!
I hate it when there's a load on the line and it rains, even more when you know the washing was probably almost dry. This reminds me of when my kids were all at home, I couldn't keep on top of it all in the winter, even with a tumble dryer.
All that steam in one room - like a steam bath - probably good for something! A really busy time for you but glad you do have a drier! The nice thing about being busy with B&B's is when you are not!
Such a candid homely shot -- I do hate it when the weather decides to make work become like more hard work !! Lets hope tomorrow is a better day for you Pat !
I love this - looks like a Victorian reconstruction!! Been proper hot down here today but we still had to get washing out before lunch for it to be dry by evening. Think the weather might swap over tomorrow.
@busylady yes Judith thought you would recognise this scene @maggiemae too....no steam maggiemae it's not that hot but does dry them well over time. Thank you for your comments about this everyday photo.
Fab picture with some odd memories coming back. We were a household of 7 and mum had a boiler and a mangle. On bad weather wash days there was a line on a pulley in the family room and we'd have to dodge the sheets! All my friends had similar set ups so no embarrassment until one day the rapper went. It was a cousin I barely remembered on a visit home from Chicago. I can still see her. She wore an elegant grey suit with a corsage. I did not want to take her into the room with the sheets but the parlour was cold as it hadn't been used much and the fire was seldom lit!
Isn't it so good that we can all enjoy what you have called 'an everyday shot'? So good that you are able to get things dry under trying circumstances!
Babs reminded me that at the other farm I used to have a pulley in the kitchen over the Rayburnas we used to have then....I wanted to put it up here but the kitchen ceiling is too low. Would have been invaluable & it was great for airing clothes too. Thanks for your memories!
I have a drying rack on a pulley in the kitchen and I don't know how I ever managed without it. I prefer to dry things outside but rain doesn't matter any more. I do miss my Aga though. Love this photo it just shows what life is really like. Hope the rain has left you it's supposed to be moving down this way but it's OK at the moment.
