School Days

I have been to a school reunion this afternoon......a rather scary occasion I must say!
The Holy Child nuns who have a long history of teaching in Preston are being relocated to another area, the ones that are left that is.
A celebritary farewell with church service & refreshments was planned.
I knew one person that was going & had arranged to see her there but I was completely overwhelmed at the turn out. There must have been over five hundred of us so it took me ages to find her.
We had name tags on with our name & the years we were there but I only recognised one other person out of my class who actually happens to be standing next to me in this photo.

I must say some of them looked very old but I was glad I had gone if only to photo this slide photo of my class.
I am second row third from the right.

Three good things:
1. Remembering my youth!
2. Looking better than some of my compatriots.....well I thought so anyway!
3. Good education
A super retro shot.

I'm sure you looked better than a lot of younger ones Pat! I see there was a definite hair style going on. End of an era for the town.

It's great to find old friends from school and I met up with some of mine through Friends Reunited but after a meal out together, we didn't keep in touch - all but one that I have managed to help through my work as a Village Agent now all these years later. It was to get help for her elderly mother

@judithg indeed Judith & the last year which was 1976 had to join Lark Hill apparently ....the rivals! What years were you at Lark Hill?

@julzmaioro @thresheg Thank you both...I have just heard I can get a proper copy of this photo so I'm pleased about that...photos of me in my teens are non existent!

@rosiekind She would be grateful for your help Rosie but it's amazing how we move on....I think today's young are far better & of course have more ways of keeping in contact.

thats a group of fresh looking schoolgirls with no naughtiness in their hearts! Must have been the catholic education! I found most of the girls I went to school with are now twice the size with twice the wrinkles that I have!

@maggiemae Very true Maggimae....I did go pretty smartly dressed, even put my highish boots on but some looked very dowdy.....I feel bad criticising but think it's pretty natural! Good to have a decent opinion of yourself in case nobody else does ha ha !

A real nostalgic photo Pat , it must have brought back memories

Yes such a nostalgic photo Pat ,! Amazing what memories are brought back ! I tried to find you and was nearly there !! I chose you as 2nd row 3rd or 5th from left !! (This was deducted by the likeliness of your granddaughter Lydia !! ) So good that so many had turned up -- but frustrating when you can not remember names and faces !!

Wow that's a good turn out for the reunion!

@beryl I actually couldn't have named more than three out of my class until I saw this photo....I have remembered the names of three quarters of them now Beryl.

Great shot and I would recognise you anywhere Pat.

reminds me of my old school photos of that era. The hair styles in particular. Nice feeling when you see that you're travelling well in the ageing stakes.

What fun to see a copy of this. My daughters old school is now a very smart restaurant but they have the school photographs as part of the decor It's great fun to go for a meal and then look at the pictures. Did they have weekly boarders in your day Pat? I have an idea I had a friend who went there.
October 16th, 2015
Our school is now called The Olive Press one of Paul Heathcotes restaurants. Seems weird going in there! They took weekly boarders but it was a long long time ago.

Wonderful capture of days gone by!

That's a great reunion! And I do like your No 2!! I feel the same!!!!

I was saying to my hairdresser the other day how girls nowadays all have long hair but in my day most had short hair and this photo proves it. Everyone looks so smart. It's lovely to reminisce about happy memories. We used to have photos taken by one of those cameras that scanned around in a semi circle to take the whole school in one shot.

(I'm sure she was lovely but I have to say that the nun looks a bit like a man dressed up, lol!!!)

Nice photo to have. Never been to a reunion.

@nickspicsnz Ha ha she has a massive nose poor thing accentuated by her habit. I don't remember ever anyone commenting on that so shows how well behaved we were! Only now looking back I can see she would break mirrors! I didn't much like her....she once said I had no character & I have never forgotten it....I think she was possibly right in those days, I wouldn't say boo to a goose!
