Harry & I wrapped up warm & drove to Blackpool to watch the starling murmuration around the piers.
Quite fascinating watching as they gather at sunset, swirling & swooping as more & more join them to roost under the piers.
North Pier was the most popular partly I expect because it's the vintage pier with no noisy amusements or music. It was closed to the public & the starling obviously appreciated the quietness.
We couldn't hear the sound of the wings unfortunately as it was too noisy with the traffic & general sounds of Blackpool.
Lovely extra good things:
Jacks birthday today, happy birthday Jack! 😘
Lydia had an exam today, she got a first!
Max was chosen to stand on the stage this morning & introduce various proceedings plus the National Anthem at school assembly at school.
Alex has moved into her house south of Christchurch.
William is coming over for a visit in April.
Can't miss Finn out, he is just Finn & enjoying kindy & his other grandads visit to NZ.
Lots to look forward to!
Three more good things:
1. Harry Ramsdons for a senior helping of haddock & chips, tea & a pudding all for £15.98.
2. Gloves, it was perishing on our hands!
3. Three lots of visitors this morning, one after the other, we just drank coffee & chatted the whole morning!
Fabulous. I must be blessed as the starlings do this over my house and roost in the garden. I also have a kingfisher feeding from the pond. Maybe I should look up for photos rather than ground level ..
@motherjane ha ha Jane yes perhaps but more choice dawn . We can see starlings too gathering in the woods below us but with the sea & open sky at Blackpool I think you could appreciate them more although would have heard them more here if I had walked down the fields.
Such a gorgeous sight and a lovely light and capture Pat . Love the pink glow in the sky reflecting on the sea ! but most of al to see all those starlings ,like a big swarm of bees !!!! A lovely tranquil scene ! fav . It sounds as if you had a wonderful and joyous day .
Fabulous sight to behold - thanks for sharing - we don't get to see such numbers except for seagulls and they don't seem to do any murmuring (just squawking). I like all your good things - how positive!
Sorry for mass reply but it's got late & nearly bed time! Got distracted watching TV tonight! Married at first sight....who would think of doing that? Hard enough when you know each other well!
You are so lucky to experience this event - heard about it so often and also heard the sound of wings on a video! We can't see the movement but can imagine it. Love what is happening in your family! You must appreciate being in touch!
@lyndamcg go while this good weather is on Lynda, around North pier around 5.15pm. Rap up then go for fish & chips at Harry Ramsdons. Senior portion is massive & you get bread & butter, drink & a pudding all for £7.99 each! They close at 8pm.
This must be fantastic to see... dancing in the sky.. and the Pier and sky colour was a real bonus to your image... fav
And those Grandkids are doing you proud
