We were really intrigued by this little box fastened on the fence in Grasmere.
You can read what is says but we didn't know whether the cake was free & you could help yourself...we couldn't see anywhere to leave money & there was no price on it.
Inside the box was a small cake wrapped in cling film.
Sticky gingerbread or butter flapjack!
Three good things:
1. Surprises you don't expect!
2. A wedding to watch on TV today.
3. It's our lovely daughters 50th birthday today! 50 is the new 40 Cathy!
What a fun gesture - I wonder are they twitching the curtains to see how many open the box and if someone is brave enough to take the cake !! Perhaps they had their camera on the ready - perhaps you are on Candid Camera Pat !!!!
@beryl Ha ha Beryl, I wonder, I think most people would really actually wonder if they could take the cake out, we certainly didn't but I'm thinking the cake wrapper might have had an advert for a local cafe on it perhaps! I remember Candid Camera!!
@alinz I should have Ali... didn't have a proper good look thinking about it....somehow it felt cheeky looking in! No idea why I though that but I wished I had taken the cake out & had a real good look. Next time!
Yes I think you're right, it was almost opposite Dove Cottage which is of course the home of William Wordsworth.
