This stuff has been under the stairs for years!
Not a job we want to do in this day & age unfortunately.
Some of this silver belonged to my mum. She loved cleaning the silver & hated seeing it all tarnished.
What on earth am I going to do with it?
Some napkin rings given for Christenings, Harry’s Christening mug, I cant get rid of them but who wants to clean them?
The other stuff I will perhaps take to an auction room somewhere, there is a good one in Kirkby Lonsdale, they do have a silver sale every couple of months.
No one is sentimental anymore these days!
Three good things:
1. A new case for my mobile phone, it’s pink!
2. A decorator is coming to tackle the large utility room, I will paint the doors if he does the walls!
3. I was firm with someone who overstepped the mark today.....
Love your photo.....I'm sure you're not alone having silver things in need of polishing tucked away.
When the polishing is finished you could take a photo showing it all looking beautiful. Then whatever you decide ....
Now where have I put my silver post bowl? It was a wedding gift and that's just about 40 years ago!!!
Ooh Pat - I feel your pain . I sent most of the silver that came from home to an auction ! - I had no where to display it ( and not really my thing !!) certainly the cleaning and polishing was not my cup of tea !
@beryl I’m quite keen to get rid of mine too but feel guilty about family stuff. I’m sure no one would even realise it had gone. There were some really lovely fish knives & forks which I took to Cathy’s last night. She has a few dinner party type evenings & was delighted with them. The rest.....?
Oh my goodness! You certainly have my sympathy along with many others that share the same concerns. Our "kids" don't want it, I seldom use it, and there is no $$market for it. You have some beautiful silver pieces.
Not a job I like. I got rid of our silver before we came to Australia. It was probably a good time to move on from it. As you say people don't feel sentimental about it these days.
I tried to guess who's photo this was, but I didn't manage! It's super. I love the gloves and the dirty newspaper in the foreground and all that silver just waiting for your touch of magic! I must confess to not liking the cleaning of silver either, but get round to it on occasion ...
Our job as children was to polish the silver - in those days it was used all the time when we had guests! My silver resides in a felt covered drawer going tarnished by the year! I would keep the special ones and particularly a teapot if you have one..

Intrigued about what you stood up for!
