On our way back from Lytham yesterday we passed through Moss Side where the railway line crosses the road. Lucky for me the lights went on red as we approached!
Just a slow passenger train that many moons ago I caught to travel into Preston.
I was doing my nursing training & was doing a stint at Moss Side hospital which was an old isolation hospital that Blackpool Victoria Hospital was using as a rehabilitation ward.
Sadly the site is all newish houses now & the hospital no more. I am going back over fifty years!
That’s the front of the train you can see.
Three good things:
1. A good cleaning up day...showers & all the stuff that doesn’t get done as often.
2. I sat in the garden all afternoon & read my book...finished it tonight ....called My Real Children by Jo Walton. I enjoyed it but it rambled on a bit at the end. A very different story line but easy to read...she writes well.
3. Cold grapes.
@maggiemae No that’s why I had to add it was the front...I think it’s one of those that goes either way! Must be diesel maggie I think...it’s a very small country line with just a couple of trans a day I would think. Must check!
Just checked, this station is the Blackpool South to Preston line. Closed in 1961 & reopened in 1983 it has an hourly run surprisingly stopping at all times at MossSide. This is because it has to slow down as it crosses the road...I would think it’s used quite often for commuting. The NorthernLine.
Usually we curse when a train passes and we have to stop, but when we want a photo, it's a delight! Nice capture and it's so good to reminisce about days gone by!
This is a very clean, colorful train! Our’s are usually full of graffiti! Always try to read the books you’ve mentioned but this one isn’t available on my digital library card. Still reading the HUGE A Suitable Boy!!
@loweygrace So am I Lois....I had a break from it...it’s so hard to hold in bed! It will take me a while yet I’m only a third the way through it! The book I mentioned here was from the library.
@dide@sangwann Thank you, yes perfect timing & the train was amazingly clean! Northern rail has lots of complaints but I thought this one looked very efficient!
