I put on my rucksack this morning & walked to the village shop.
The doctors house is at the end of the street & it looks like someone got a royal bird box for Christmas!
Three good things:
1. At least six of my original 365 friends have rejoined so it’s spurred me on as I was wavering a bit!
2. I bought a bottle of sliced beetroot at the shop, put it in the rucksack & was relieved I got home without slipping, breaking the bottle & all the red liquid running out down my back...might have caused a bit of a stir!
3. Finished Away with the Penguins & downloaded Hazel Priors first book, Ellie & the Harp Maker.
I think I have a similar bird box in my garden. (Can't see it at the moment as it's dark.) Peter bought it for me last christmas but I think the birds prefer the plain ones best! Well done on getting home safely!
Love the pop of red this box creates. We have an identical one but never a nesting bird. Shame as emerging fledglings would make a great photo opportunity.
Lovely to be back on to see your 3 good things. Makes me feel much more optimistic x
@busylady@lucycameron Perhaps the bright red puts the birds off but I would love one just for the look of them ...I might get one when we’ve done our garden up! Yes back to the three things today....I couldn’t think of any yesterday so pretended I forgot!!
@happypat I envy you, I too went for a walk but it was very dull, cold and damp. I didn’t wear my woolly hat, that was a mistake. Nevertheless I felt a lot better when I got back.
Love the pop of red.. but will be interesting to see if the birds like it. Yes i have noticed some returnees as well.. 365 is a habit that is hard to break..
@judithg Loved Away with the Penguins Judith. I made a cup of tea this morning & went back to bed with the electric blanket on to finish it! Yes a very nice house & garden. The box must be too bright!
This tree would be lovely with all its greenery! Nicely kept garden and hopefully nobody fell off the ladder putting this cute bird house up. In the right place, of course, to fall off! I'm quite amazed at how many of my 365 friends are keeping up with the 'once a day' challenge!
@sarah19 Doesn't bear thinking of does it...just think of the panic if all that red juice had spilled out all over the pavement....ambulances with bells comes to mind! 🤣🤣
What a great find. Don't think a bird box would work in our garden. We get hundreds of birds and they would fight over the occupancy.
Had to laugh at the beetroot story. When I was young my Mum had a grocers shop and one evening I heard a scream and crash and Mum had fallen off the little step ladder while stocking the shelves. She was covered in what we thought was blood but relieved when we realized it was a tomato sauce bottle that had broken.
Lovely capture Pat. I'd worry about that red box though - will the birds be attracted or repelled? Not sure, but it's beautiful. You made me smile with the idea of beetroot juice trickling down your back ... that would indeed have caused a stir!!!
Oh I laughed out loud - what a "Psycho" moment that would have been if someone had spotted you!!
Love this little pillar box feeding box. I have an old post box in my back garden, love it.
Such a cheerful home for some lucky bird family. And I love that wonderfully gnarly tree that it's attached to. So glad you made it home safely with your beetroot bottle intact. :)

I noticed some 'new' old friends here too.
