Winter buddleia by happypat

Winter buddleia

Just spotted these dead buddleia flowers hanging over the footpath on our walk today.
Strangely beautiful still...a sort of dried flower.
They looked a chocolate brown colour that was rather nice.

Three good things:
1. The chap from the garage who live three doors down delivered my serviced & repaired car back today.
2. The shed man rang!
3. We have passed planning permission for our build!
Splendid good newses today. I’m feeling a bit guilty about my plans to hard prune our buddleia now!

@judithg This was taken in a garden where the house is under offer so obviously a neglected garden at the moment...the house is empty. I was surprised how pretty it looked!

Interesting....not seen one like that before.....they are usually all cut back by Autumn.

I thought they were swarms!
Need to return in the summer and photograph the butterflies, looks like it flowers well!

You're right, it is kind of lovely in brown and you've captured it beautifully.

Good spot. Love dried flowers and seed heads etc.

Glad things have gone well this day - car delivery is rather good and only 3 doors down! Our gardener cut our buddlea back but have never done it before. Should have. Even our rhododendrons should be pruned apparently!

Glad to hear about hte planning Pat - all systems go now! The flower heads do have a certain beauty.

@gijsje @joansmor @carolmw @cutekitty @lyndamcg @pdulis @filsie65 @boxplayer

Because the house has been empty for a while the garden has been left to get overgrown so the usually pruned plants been left to do their own thing. A surprise to see this, I wondered if it was actually Buddleia to start with.

@lucycameron Yes I will as the plant is right on the edge of the village Main Street, I must keep my eye open next year.

@maggiemae We were surprised to see it at lunchtime, but he was coming home so just dropped it off. Sometimes leaving things to nature is a surprise.

@jantan Yes all systems go now Jan. The flowers were very firm, surprisingly well dried & intact.

Interesting shape, they look like ice cream cones.

Mine never flowered this year...and then the dog chewed up the plant...maybe it will come up gangbusters this year!

Such a pretty flower both in summer and winter! Good news and life is great.

Very cool. They look like chocolate ice cream cones.

Wisteria is one of my favorites. And they are rather striking in dried form. Sounds like you had a very good day from your three good things!

Nicely spotted, these chocolate brown buddleia. Good news about the planning permission!

Great news about the build, congratulations! Nice spot on the buddleia. I trimmed mine back too late last year so the flowers didn't turn up until September. Need to remember it is March for that job this year!

Makes a wonderful picture. Glad for you about the house.

Good shot.

Lovely how they hold their shape. I pass a beautifully dried hydrangea bush on my way to the village shops....must stop and click! Great to have car dropped off like that and delightful that your planning permission has been approved. Exciting times ahead.
