I was really pleased to see the green oak beam in place today.
This was ordered the first day they came to start building as the oak was a five week wait.
Delighted to see how it looks & am thinking it will look great with the Christmas cards hanging in there next Christmas.
I might need a big pair of steps!
Three good things:
1. I did the Focus delivery for Harry today. It’s a hill walk on the lane so as his hip is bad I did that delivery & he did the driving ones! I enjoyed it Looking at all the different front doors!
2. We went to a fire shop this morning just to check out the gas stoves. Have to make sure we are getting g the right type of fire for our old age....we are sticking with the wood burner but making sure it complies to all the new eco designs for the 2022 regulations.
3. We had a good trip to Newcastle yesterday....we felt quite adventurous going all that way. My aunt was a good age & had a tough but OK life so we sent her off with love.
They look happy with the job too! Love the idea of hanging Christmas cards up. Funerals are hard in this climate. Sorry about your aunt but also glad you felt you sent her off with love.
That us a huge beam.. is it exposed?.. talking to a builder yesterday and there is a 10 week wait on wood over here at mo.. crazy..
Your Aunt must of been quite an age ..thankful you were able to attend her send off..
@julzmaioro My aunt was 92 Julz. Yes the whole of this beam will be exposed....it’s the full length from side to side, a bit hard to see the left side as that bit of old roof is still in the way.
I’m surprised you have to wait that long for wood when you produce so much of your own...
A big beam and two beaming workmen !! Thinking ahead to Christmas Pat and planning hanging your Christmas Cards on the beam ! Good to see the building coming on so well !
Of so the ceilings will be full height with beams across? How lovely and a nod to your farmhouses. I’m impressed you still had an aunt - I’ve never had one!
Your builders look very jolly. How much longer will it be before the job is complete?
Know what you mean about travelling such a distance after lockdown. I felt as though I needed a passport the first we went to our Newcastle when lockdown eased. ha ha.
Fabulous! I love the look of this massive beam!
My condolences on the death of your aunt, Pat. But it was good that you could be there for the loving send off.
@judithg Now I think about it I’m impressed I had an aunt still alive Judith....I am the last generation now! 😨😳. My dad was the eldest & her husband my dads youngest brother. Both died very young.
@onewing The builders are doing really well Babs but I think we will see less dramatic difference when the roof is done. They say you’re only half way when building work is complete. I think it will be July before we can think of moving back in.
Great progress Pat , our builders are telling us about delays of all kind of materials every week and of increased prices ( metal and wood) so, with 4 weeks in the process, I doubt if our project will be finished in time ....

Good you were able to get to your aunt's funeral. Memorable family times.
