On fire! by happypat

On fire!

We were far too full to even think of eating any Christmas pudding on the day but after our lovely roast beef dinner on New Years Day we lit the pudding!
I am not a Christmas fayre eater at all but this one was nice, quite sponge like & not as heavy as they sometimes are.
Cathy & Garth’s house after our family walk.

Three good things:
1. Talked to a friend on the phone for a long time this morning.
2. We enjoy sitting at our kitchen work bench in our high bar stools watching all the dogs go past on their walks.
3. Lots of Christmas trees come down today Harry noticed on his walk but I love ours up so it’s there still lit until the 6th January. Of course we aren’t going to work tomorrow so have plenty if time to do things like that.
That pudding looks great. I don’t make a Christmas cake, but usually make about 4 puddings. I could not get brown sugar, so had to substitute with raw sugar. They were a real flop! I was also using almond flour and coconut flour so they were suitable for coeliacs. In the end I added more flour and reboiled them - they were heavy and stodgy but tasted lovely.... I wasn’t going to throw them out with all that fruit and ginger!

Looks a great Christmas put.. I prefer a cold dessert for our hot Christmas days but do enjoy a good steam fruity pud in the colder months.

That looks very nice but like you I'm always to full after Christmas dinner. Nice blue flame though.

It looks great especially with the blue flame rising -- Like you we did not have room for a heavy Pudding on Christmas day , but enjoyed it after our roast dinner on New Year's day .

Oh Pat - I'm so pleased to hear you saying you keep your tree up - I've been getting comedically cross with all the people taking theirs down ahead of 12th night :-)

Lovely flaming pudding!

@boxplayer Can’t take the Christmas stuff down until the Kings have arrived Ayla! 🤣. Ours don’t go up that early so I like to keep them as long as possible.

Wonderful capture.
January 3rd, 2022
@happypat absolutely! Yes we made the mistake of buying ours too early a couple of years back and it got very dried up too quickly.

That looks good. I have never eaten Christmas Pudding. I must look for a recipe. I assume it has a fair amount of Rum or Brandy?
January 3rd, 2022
@digitalrn Brandy Rick….it’s very rich!
January 3rd, 2022
@dide Well Dianne, you did do well to make it eatable for every diet….medals all round! It’s the taste that counts!
January 3rd, 2022
@julzmaioro Ooh me too Julz, I had trifle!
January 3rd, 2022
@ladymagpie It’s the worst pudding you could think of having after a full roast turkey dinner….we had trifle & fruit salad….I am not a fruit salad person sadly though as I do like a bit of custard & cream.
January 3rd, 2022
@beryl It lit well Beryl but the brandy has to be warmed hasn’t it….we liked it so much we poured more on & lit it again!

@joansmor Thanks Joan.

@happypat sounds a good idea !!

We usually wait until later in the day for the Christmas pudding. I still have a 'lighter' pudding left from last year - hope it's ok!
January 3rd, 2022
I don’t mind Christmas cake, but I don’t like Christmas pudding. In fact there is only Phil that likes it, so he kind of loses out.
January 3rd, 2022
I used rum on our Christmas pudding but didn't heat it up first. Kept pouring it on to try and get some flame - - until the pudding was swimming in rum and we gave up. You pudding looks a beautiful shape!
January 3rd, 2022
@maggiemae You have to warm the alcohol maggie then it soon burst into flame. We heated our in a jug in the microwave! Just warming will do.
January 3rd, 2022
@carole_sandford Well I don’t make any Christmas stuff….I buy mince pies etc as there is only Harry likes it….I used to make mince ones etc but H is quite happy with Booths ones.
January 3rd, 2022
@busylady I think the puddings keep for a good while Judith but you might not fancy it in the summer although yours is a lighter one…might be a real treat when you’re starving hungry!
January 3rd, 2022
@happypat I don’t make anything either. I don’t really have the time & I tend to think why? When they are beautifully made & boxed by so many companies 🤣
January 3rd, 2022
I buy mine and this year had it with brandy cream. Yummy!!
January 3rd, 2022
@carole_sandford Exactly unless you love cooking of course!
January 3rd, 2022
two people taking photos of your pudding Pat !!!
January 3rd, 2022
I don't like Christmas pudding at all but I do like that flame you have captured!
January 3rd, 2022
Wow!
That looks great and such fun after a formal meal!
January 4th, 2022
Such a great shot. I’m sure it is delicious. Holiday sweets are so good because we only have them once a year!
January 4th, 2022
Im not a real lover of Christmas pudding or mince pies for that matter, but I do like to see them alight
January 4th, 2022
Looks yummy
January 4th, 2022
How neat!
January 4th, 2022
Sounds like a lovely day! I’ll need to try to make a Christmas pudding next year!
January 4th, 2022
I love how you can see the blue flame!
January 4th, 2022
Love that blue flame.
January 5th, 2022
This looks fine!! I'm not really a hot pudding person on Christmas Day....too full long before this point.
It's good if there are several other family members to share it!
Sorry I'm just catching up!!
