A week ago I took a friend to have her hair cut. She had fallen & hurt her leg so can’t drive just now.
I sat in the car while she was in & snapped the postman on his rounds.
The village of Galgate.
Three good things:
1. The cupboards stocked up before I go away for a week. Easy cooking for Harry.
2. Rain tonight!
3. I watered all the pots earlier…there is a strong wind & they were blowing over…..the watering weighed them down.
That was a helpful thing to do. I love the post. When we were in the USA on a holiday, we were driving and followed the postman there for a short time and and leaned out of the car window to take a photo! Just to see a hand coming out of a van and putting something in one of those mailboxes on the street and putting the flag up - so novel to me! He got out after a while and asked if I was an inspector LOL He was most amused when I said I was English and had never seen mail delivered quite like that before!
@casablanca That’s how our Mail is delivered to our post box Casa. We bought a NZ Mail box with a flag…the postman used to drive up to it, lean out & pop the post in & put the flag up. Now we’ve moved he walks down our road so does the same by foot! We have no letterbox in our front door!

There you are Casa…taken at our old farm. It’s on the drive & window height for the postman. We have the same one still but just on the side of the gateway this time.
A very English photo.. love how you have a kiwi Rural Delivery mail box Pat.. Van delivers here mail and courier parcels in the mailbox and we can post letters for him to take if we put the flag up @casablanca .. back when I was a kid mailman use to bring our bread and meat as well..
Love the pop of red. Interesting conversation between you and Casa. I think I will have to get a New Zealand mail box. Our mail boxes are at the end of our driveways in Australia but we don't have flags on them to say the mail has been delivered. Very often David will say 'have you checked the mail today' and if we had a flag on our mail box we would know wouldn't we.
The red uniform always makes them bright & cheerful! We have a lovely postie called Mark. Last year when it was our village scarecrow trail the theme was pandemic heroes & someone made a scarecrow of Mark! He even had his picture taken with it!
I have a rural mailbox like your old one but have to check it about 4 times a day - no flag! However, it gives me a walk. I can't imagine post being delivered through the door but our doorways are always a long way from the gate!
@carole_sandford How lovely….our postman’s can be real heroes! Out original one has been moved to a smaller round but he used to get cakes etc ,redirected the Mail himself including ours when in temporary accommodation….
The Mail used to arrive very late though!
@onewing Ah Babs you definitely need a NZ Mail box. We have brought three of them back with us over the years, quite easy to bring back on a plane! Sure it won’t be too expensive flying one over! Think of the time it would save you plus as you walk a lot you don’t need any more exercise! 🤣🤣
@julzmaioro Yes our old postman used to take our letters for post but haven’t tried it with the ones we have now….no need anyway as we have a post I in the wall about 100 yards away.
Food in too, how amazing is that!
Very handy when you have a parcel too as there’s room inside for that too!
One if the very best things we brought out if NZ!
