One of my Christmas presents from Cathy is at its best just now.
I was so pleased with it & a promise to plant it up again next year!
A sad day for Nicolas friends & family as her body was discovered in the river.
The river has been described as a stream in parts, it’s no stream but a very unpredictable tidal river which swells to 100’s of metres wide when the tide is in. We used to watch it swell to a frightening width when we were at the farm as it was the boundary to our fields. Our heifers used to graze on the banks in the summer so we know it well.
Anyone who remembers the Abbeystead disaster in 1984 when 44 residents of St Michael’s on Wyre visited a North West Waterworks building for a public presentation demonstrating how it would help relieve the regular flooding of St Michael’s village.
There was a methane explosion & 16 villagers were killed, eight instantly & eight in the following days & weeks.
That river used to regularly flood although they do have flood gates in Garstang now to open & flood the show field with excess water.
Hopefully the village can return to normal but are all mourning the very sad loss of a much loved mum, partner, daughter & friend.
Social media has had much to answer for in the last three weeks.
I was only wondering yesterday if you had had any news about Nicola. So sad that it took so long to find her body in the river and a sad end to the story.
@onewing I always thought she was in the river Babs but all the searching never found her even though quite near where she went in. The tide will have come up & lifted the body so it got tangled up in the reeds…the boats only searched the actual water! 😨😳
Oh dear, sounds as though the search was a bit of a shambles. I would have thought it was obvious that her body could have got tangled in the reeds. I can't imagine how awful it must have been for her family.
@maggiemae Will we ever know maggie but I have always thought she fell in. So much to live for. @beryl I’m sure there will be Beryl. I do hope the family are left in peace now & are able to have a private funeral.
People stopped us in the road asking if this was where Nikki had gone missing. I thought afterwards I should have sent them the wrong way towards Blackpool!
Thank you for the back story. It puts this tragedy into perspective somewhat. We may never know the truth of exactly what happened and how.
Love your flower basket.
Beautiful spring basket of flowers.
Sad news but inevitable I think after the length of time. “Anti - social media” as you say has caused lots of investigation problems & seeming the family are furious with ITV & Sky News too. It’s human nature to wonder what happened, but the “ have a go detectives” haven’t helped either.
a beautiful photo Pat and an emotional narrative from you . Social media is a strange world , it can be good and it can be hateful and toxic . 365 is a lovely social media community , small , manageable and full of lovely people
I adore your gorgeous spring basket!!
I am so sorry about the tragic death of Nicola. I know her family, friends, and community are heartbroken. The three weeks of not knowing must have been excruciating for her loved ones.
A beautiful basket and so nicely photographed. What a terrible outcome for Nicola's family and friends. The only positive thing I can say is at least the family now have closure - the not knowing must have been torture. The 70+ year old grandmother who was lost here in the November floods - presumed to have gone into the raging river to rescue her dog has never been found. I can't imagine the pain of her family - no closure, no funeral yet, no nothing. Life is very, very cruel at times.
