There was a bee! by happypat

There was a bee!

I took this tonight as I sat in the evening sun after supper.
We have to move down the garden as the sun goes behind the house but it’s a lovely time when all work done & dusted for the day.
I was watching the bees around this clover…..managed to get down on my dodgy knee but then the bees flew off!
Mowing grass day tomorrow I think!
It’s a little bit longer just now as Harry thinks it’s not good to be too short when it’s so dry & sunny.
I must say we have been watching lots of bird life pecking at the grass…starlings & mummy pigeon bath pecking at tiny yellow seed heads.
It’s interesting.
A friends funeral in Retford today…..thankfully we were able to follow on line with a link to the crematorium. RIP Roy.
Love a field of clover, so good for the pollinators.

Nicely captured clover. Pity about the bee but nice the have time to watch the wildlife. My Mum's favourite poem started with
'What is this life if full of care, we have no time to stand and stare?'
Our daughter read it out at her funeral

Love clover. We used to suck the flowers when we were little and get the lovely sweet taste.....I'm not sure if I fancy doing it now 😂
I was watching a bee today too.... just along from where I was, on my knees weeding. It seemed on a mission!
But I wonder where the ladybirds are this year ....we had lots last year but....

@sarah19 A few people are saying where are the insects this year but it’s lovely weather but still cold in the morning in the shade. I have never ever heard of sucking clover….think I will give that a miss!

@phil_howcroft Yes no mow May…it didn’t happen here Phil……it would have really made Harry ill to see the grass so long but he is leaving it longer.

@boxplayer @busylady Thankfully everyone seems much more aware if preserving wild life these days.

Very luscious clover, wouldn't want to walk through there with bare feet.. Yes good to keep it longer over summer..

I'm always nervous about clover too - the bees! We try to keep our lawn free from clover using 'weed and feed'.

Lovely clover

A great shot of the clover but alas I know the disappointment of seeing a bee - but then fail to capture it - they buzz around so quickly don't they!

Lovely

Lovely close up. Our grass will be left longer now as we are in winter. We try to keep it longer during the winter months and then leave the grass cuttings on the lawn to help fertilize the soil.

Lovely picture of your sunny clover. Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend.

@onewing Yes they do help to keep a lawn healthy Babs…. Harry has a mulcher mower so all cuttings stay on top.

@beryl I was slow moving too Beryl! 😨

@maggiemae It’s not often we have clover on ours but I’ve been truly amazed at the insects around! For the first time I can see the benefit of longer grass! I’m only talking around two inches but it’s made a difference! I think it will be iff today although Harry has a pre op today. Hernia thus time!🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Lovely field of clover, shame about the bee but great pov. Sorry for your loss

Lovely shot. Pity the bees were gone by the time you took your shots.

I do like to walk barefoot through the grass. But I did get a bee sting this summer!

That clover is lush and lovely. I once put my hand on a bee as a child when I was sitting on the lawn, so I don't walk barefoot in grass these days! But I love bees still and I love clover.
