Model farm

On my walk I just took this shot quickly with my iPhone.
A model farm run by the most efficient farmers in the area.
Everything is emmaculate & tidy & as I walked past I never got one whiff of farmyard.

Thought the farmers on 365 @julzmaioro might be interested I our farm yards.
This farm has many buildings like this & all the cattle are inside for approx six months of the year & on some farms twelve months of the year. More robotic milkers being installed & it's easier for the cows to be in all year round.
Personally I don't like that idea but it's the way it's going.
One of the best times in the farming year was letting the cows out into the fields for the first time at the end of the winter...how they jumped & kicked their heels up!

You can just see the tops of the heads of some cattle in the left hand building & the silage for the winter feed under those tyres.

Every thing this farming family do is spot on! The father had his hips replaced & there he was as soon as he could get down the steps into the milking parlour he was milking again! Incidently it didn't do him any good as he had to have it re done. They are so keen though.
Looks very spick and span. But I do like seeing cows out in the pasture. More robotic milkers going in here as well but they do still graze on grass.. just seem to know wjen to go back to shed to be milked. Don't think farmer George will be changing sny time soon.

@julzmaioro No I think he's wise! Sometimes it's best I go the opposit way to everyone else! I think in the UK cows that go out to grass will be on a premium soon!

The farmers with cows in our village still put them out. They can be found alot of the year up on some hilly fields we walk on. It does look very tidy.

This is probably an efficient way of farming but It's not quite like when I was little and I went to my granddads farm. I don't like the idea of the cows being inside all the time.

I feel for the cows, I must say but it does look really orderly.

So tidy !! but I hate the thought of the cows being kept inside 365/365 -- poor things -- no day light , natural grazing , and as you say frolicking on the field the first day out after the winter period . I suppose if they were let out ,they would untidy the farm yard !!!! Sorry for my distaste to the whole idea -- not much better than keeping battery hens !!

@newbank @sdutoit @susiemc @quietpurplehaze @beryl

These cows go out during the day time still as far as I know. Thank you all fir your lovely comments.

I expect they don't have the stress of the cold and wet conditions being inside for the winter. But if they have the buildings to house them, it easy to see why they would prefer to leave them inside!

I totally agree

poor cows. Imagine never to feel the grass under ones hoofs. Not a leaf out of place in that farm.

@maggiemae They do seem happy inside Maggimae & I know when we had our cows out all day in the summer but they had always come back inside on their own by morning.

What an incredibly tidy farm!

Interesting insight! I guess it must be far more efficient. Still nice to think that the cows head outside at times.
