Urangan Pier..Hervey Bay. Queensland ~

Travelling to Hervey Bay 210 klms. north of the Sunshine Coast for a weeks holiday..
.Urangan Pier was built in 1917 to export Bundaberg sugar, Burrum coal and Fraser Island timber. Transported by steam train along the pier, the exports were then placed onto cargo ships ready to be shipped all around the world. The Pier was built from Turpentine logs, a local hardwood timber that is so strong, some of those logs are still standing today. Orignal length 1124 meters.. Present length 868 meters. Looks great on black..

It's rather sad that there aren't many of these lovely long wooden piers left.
