Earlier in the week, we brought Annie to Philmont High Adventure Scout Camp near Cimarron, NM. This tent will be home until the end of August except when she is out on the backpacking trails. She does have a tent mate. It has been a very hot and dry winter. There is a forest fire near their base camp which started today and has aleady burned 1.600 acres. There have been very high winds. They, along with the town of Cimarron, have been evacuated to about 30 miles away to Raton, NM at the county fair grounds. They have set up their backpacking tents. She has been keeping us informed so we haven't been too worried. I hope they contain the fire soon...I hate to see so much forest destroyed. Thank you for viewing.
Fires are so destructive. I hope it can be contained and extinguished very soon. They finally stopped a fire in California that had been going for 6 months...awful! I hope your daughter enjoys her 3 month camping experience!
Oh, Harbie, I was just horrified when I read your first sentence! I'm so glad the camp was evacuated. She should be fine in Raton, unless the air gets polluted with the smoke. The news said that we should have rain on Sunday and that should turn the tide.
