We have a tree in our yard - the one the bird feeders hang from in fact - that we always assumed was a Sumac. But this year it is dropping a ridiculous amount of these nuts (?) all over the yard and I can find no evidence on the Interwebs that a Sumac would ever do such a thing.... If there are any budding Arborists out there who have any useful information on the subject, please feel free to let me know. Although if it turns out these nut things are actually a valuable commodity, please do not let me know.... Because my kids used them all up as weapons of defense! ;-)
