Inevitable that you feel invested in their future. Perhaps there will be another brood. The blackbird parents here seem to be having a rest at the moment. This is beautiful and a fav.
We had a nest that was just too vulnerable and the baby blackbirds didn't even get to leave the nest. I guess it was a cat, rat or stoat that got them. Nature seems so cruel sometimes.
It is very young to be out of the nest, they can normally at least flutter around if they need to. I have got one running around the garden, its being fed by the parents, but is far less well developed than a normal chick.
I was thinking the recent high winds might have disturbed the nest and forced it to take its chances with the big wide world.
Oh he is gorgeous. Reading your post, it's hard sometimes to get going when you lose your motivation. With me, I have done more photography in the lockdown than ever before. I set myself a mission of learning. I watch Youtube tutorials, I want to come out of the lockdown thinking that I have used the time to improve my skills. Youtube has really helped my motivation. Pick your camera back up again! Come on Helen! Get your back side into gear! xx
So uplifting! I tend to sit and watch the birds in the garden these days and make no attempt to photograph them. Current highlight are the wrens to-ing and fro-ing from a nest under the eaves of the house, bringing food and immediately setting out to search for more. Yesterday came the sound of tiny tweeting for the first time. Ditto for sparrows (now on a 2nd brood) but we have housed lots of those for many springs
