It is so much easier choosing what to post when there was only one photograph taken in the day!
With the first blue sky in days appearing for just a brief time (an hour later it was snowing!) I needed to look up when I was out today. So here you have the blue sky beyond the prison walls. Of Bedford prison, with its gloriously curved brickwork, I found an article in a national newspaper written about life inside - apparently, it provides an authentic prison experience!
" If it is ever closed down, Bedford could be used as a film set - from the 20ft outside wall to the Alcatraz-style exercise yard. The "topping-shed" where James Hanratty was hanged 40 years ago has been demolished, and the death cell is now a canteen. Almost everything else has been preserved, if not lovingly."
This comes to you completely unedited - I couldn't think what to do with it! Forgive me if I am a little slow in viewing and commenting on your albums, I am having some significant computer problems and have spent several hours watching the Microsoft wheel of death and performing numerous system restores.
Lovely pov, nice image.
I had problems with my computer a few days ago...I had to reinstall windows and therefore had to restore my applications eg office, norton. Good luck with your computer.
Lovely wall you've photographed Helen, I love the curves in the bricks... I laughed at your "Microsoft wheel of death" comment although I'm sorry you're going through such troubles!
Interesting shot and interesting story too. I recently discovered that my great great great grandfather spent 3 months in Bedford Jail for poaching rabbits. He lived in Shefford.
Well, this prison certainly did a lot for the brickwork and building industries. It is stunning though, especially with your pov. Quite chilling with it's history.
The clouds look like like steam emanating from the chimneys & making it look like a factory. A factory of correction perhaps. You could solve your windows problem by getting a Mac!
@paulmann Ha, a whole new learning curve for me that would be somewhat less smooth and beautiful than the walls of this prison. (although seriously I have thought about it). The clouds looking like steam is what I noticed first and why I stopped to take the shot. I'm glad you noticed too.
@flowerfairyann Yes - much brickwork here, and we have the brickworks that was the London Brick Company close by in Stewartby (now closed). There is much history to this prison indeed.
@onewing Babs that is fascinating. You must be doing some family genealogy research? I read in the same article that the prison was once the most overcrowded in Europe!
@kerosene Caroline feel free to laugh - computer problems are so tedious and I seem to get them at home and at work at the moment! Thank you for all your engagement with this project - it is a real boost.
@leestevo Oh Ann, how tedious to have to do a complete restore. Hope all is well for you now. I think I need a new computer. Thank you for your comments about the photo.
