It is rare that I set out of the house with a particular target for a photograph. Today was such a day, as I wanted to see what all the fuss was about regarding a new footbridge that has appeared near the town bridge to the disdain of local counsellors and residents.
I was unable to find a good angle or way to present what appears to be a very mediocre structure on first impressions and I was disappointed with my results. I was also disappointed that I couldn't find the swan and its now 9 day old cygnet anywhere on the river as I walked.
So, to make the most of a bad job, I have set to with editing and found a previously undiscovered spotlight function in photoshop, This, combined with a couple of other devices, and dare I say it, the fact that I left the ISO setting way too high by mistake, has produced a new terrain from an otherwise rather dull and tatty lily pad!
Fantastic, Helen! Until I read your narrative, I thought it was a "Where in the world is Helen Hall" photo that showed a spotlight on a place on the map. I was trying to figure out whether you were on the Nile in Egypt. SUCH a creative response to your day, and who would know this was a lily pad that began this inspiration!
@jyokota Thank you so much. I really liked the way it reminded me of one of those expensive atlases I used to look at when I was young, with relief photos of places looking so far beyond my reach.
Was this the paintwork? I can't seem to work it out, but that aside it looks like someone is flashing for help on the ground by or in the river, and I am in the rescue helicopter looking down!!!
@marshwader Glad to have sparked your imagination. There is no paintwork. There is a broken lilypad on the river. The flashing light is the sunlight catching on the water. the white I think is the effect of having the high ISO on a bright sunny afternoon! I have used the lighting effects render filter to adjust the image using first Omni and then spotlight options.
A lily pad! I would have never known - that is a very cool abstract Helen! Just like you said yesterday, you go for the abstract... That's dedication - specifically hoping for a shot, then looking for another, only to rally and get to this!
