We commenced the bedroom project this weekend - with fear and trepidation. But as I am allergic to dust and plaster and paint and all things of that nature, I have to take regular breaks to allow rashes to die down and sneezing to cease.
So my reward, after an afternoon of stripping wallpaper, was a walk in the evening sunshine. Today's photo comes from the start of this walk ...
At the near end of the newnham footbridge, I have noticed this spider. It has the biggest web running from the bank of the river to the top of the first post. I think of this spider as the landlord for the bridge. Beyond the post, there are three rows of rectangular gaps along the sides. And each has double occupancy - a web on the inner and on the outer edge of each gap. It is the equivalent of a block of flats. The Landlord is on guard, and renting out the web spaces. He or she is collecting the rent in flies and is sure to catch the bulk of the innocent passers by with his own extensive grounds and mansion.
This is just a lovely story to go with this beautiful shot... I like the way you think! Seems the landlord has an appropriate title... Collecting the rent in flies!! :)
Love the angle of this photo. How big is the spider. Some of ours are huge and don't you just hate it when you walk through a spiders web, especially at night.
Oh dear hope your allergies aren't too severe.
@onewing Babs, this spider was a couple of centimetres long. Thanks for your concern re the allergies - they are just a nuisance and can usually be sorted out with piriton and creams, as long as I am careful.
@janemartin@dizzyd@onewing well it is funny you should mention the angle. Picture a contortionist on the edge of the river bank trying desperately to fit limbs between webs without slipping on the bank, then picture a fool, balanced precariously on the bridge structure and dangling over the edge to find a position that didn't include the white painted bridge in the backdrop. Now add into the mix a well grounded fear of dropping my camera into the river and I think you will have an idea of the lengths I went to to get the angle!
@kerosene I am glad you enjoy the narrative - I wasn't sure if it made sense but I really did picture a spider high rise city with rented accommodation.
Oh dear hope your allergies aren't too severe.
