If you have followed me for a while, you might recognise this segment of 'the faces' sculpture which stands prominently looking up and down Bedford high street. Two faces look at each other and beyond. There are never very many weeks go by without someone making reference to them as a ridiculous waste of money and an eye sore. As for me, I admire them every day and they particularly caught my eye in the morning sunshine today and I got thinking about beauty being in the eye of the beholder. I wondered about all the scenes the sculptures would have witnessed if only their eyes could see. For most, the Embankment, just down the road where this eye is looking, is the jewel of Bedford with its many swans drawing much of the attention of visitors. So I wandered down the High street to the town bridge and captured the swans to put in the eye of this beholder.
Perhaps not quite in the spirit of the eotb challenge but since that is what got me thinking about and creating this image, I'll submit it anyway!
Thank you all so much for your enthusiasm over yesterday's entry. I am so grateful for the encouragement and comments and for all the newcomers who came by and took a look too.
"I wondered about all the scenes the sculptures would have witnessed if only their eyes could see" - I love that. It's so true... How thoughtful you are, a bit of a dreamer to view the world that way! I love it. And it's perfect for EOTB I'd think!
Fabulous image Helen! Well seen and well caught! I can't bear all those negative people who hate any form of art. They are the ones that want cities and parks devoid of anything cultural, just functional. No doubt just with public toilets and advertising posters!
