When Brexit Hits Hard by helenhall

When Brexit Hits Hard

This is really a reference to a story from last week in the UK, when Tesco supermarket went head to head with Unilever over the rising costs of products following the drastic fall in the pound. There were fears that we would have no marmite in the shops and I thought I was going to have to stockpile.

Actually I don't eat that much - but on this particular day, after I made the fresh bread, and was looking in the fridge for something to accompany it for lunch, the shelves were bare and I had to resort to marmite and bread for lunch.

This is also posted for Ivan who completes his project today and had much to say on the disaster of the vote to leave the EU. I am in much agreement Ivan and would gladly sacrifice marmite and more for a different result in Europe.

Happy Weekends everyone.

Mmm, marmite. Love it on toast - perfect comfort food. Love your composition.

Haha this is definitely a UK thing, Marmite! I think? I did buy a little jar of it recently but it isn't something people are familiar with here... I like it actually. :) I enjoy this shot a lot, it's very cultural.

I'll have to give it a try the next time I'm in the UK. I don't think I've ever seen it my part of Canada. Nice composition

I'm sure there are a lot of people sorry the way they voted now! Marmite forever!

I'm a great lover of marmite. ....... but was greatly disturbed to hear you keep it in the fridge. It's far too hard to spread when it is cold. I may have to call the marmite police on you!

Nice close up!

@janemartin fear not. I don't keep it in the fridge - I just looked in the fridge first to see what might be there and then proceeded to the cupboards when the fridge was not forthcoming.

It seems I learn something new on this 365 site every day and today it's marmite! I've looked into it and I think I can buy some here in Winnipeg so I plan on doing that this weekend so I can try it out. Nice shot and narrative. :-)

I like the shot. Nice composition. I had to look up marmite in the dictionary though. Had no idea what it was. It's really so nice to be on 365. I get to see and hear about a lot of things I never would have known before.

I loved reading your thread...and enjoyed your commentary and image as well.
October 22nd, 2016
@flowerfairyann it has to be white toast and proper butter. Comfort indeed.
October 22nd, 2016
@kerosene Thanks Caroline, I never thought I was posting something cultural! Desperate was more in my mind. Hope you enjoy your little pot of marmite. Warm fresh bread, or toast, lots of butter and a modest amount of marmite. Love it or Hate it!
October 22nd, 2016
@moonmtn Kahsia, remember that only the barest amount of marmite is needed otherwise you are in for a shock.
October 22nd, 2016
@summerfield how funny. I had no idea is was associated so directly with the British. So you have to be a closet fan!
October 22nd, 2016
@maggiemae It makes no difference - we are in this mess together and it isn't going away!
October 22nd, 2016
@kwind thank you.
October 22nd, 2016
@gaylewood You are brave Gayle. People fall directly into two categories - Love it or Hate it. Hope you enjoy. Let me know. Remember to be sparing with it.

@linjoyce It is the thing I lke about 365 too Lin. An education. Thank you.

@taffy I love the unexpected reactions and interest that is sparked from time to time from an 'innocent' post. Glad you enjoyed it!
October 22nd, 2016
I would enjoy the fresh baked bread, Yum! Not a fan of marmite, or Vegemite, which is the alternative choice here down under.:)
October 22nd, 2016
great shot Helen but I simply must put my vote in for Vegemite! couldnt start my day without it on hot buttery toast.
October 22nd, 2016
Mmm 😊 so good

@helenhall Just found this, Helen, as I'm having a concluding look around 365. I love Marmite too - but agree I'd go without to stay in EU! We are however planning our next visit to Belgium and Germany, Brexit and the exchange rates notwithstanding. Life's too short - especially when you get into your 70s - not to do things you want to, if you can. The ones I feel rally sorry for are the younger people who will be hit hard, business and education opportunity wise by UK being cut off from ready access and integration with its nearest neighbours. Things may turn out better, and we'll have a 'soft' Brexit (whatever that means) - but our PM begins to cause me concern. Better stop now! Best wishes :)

Thank you for the narrative, Helen. There of many of us could do with marmite for a different outcome from June.
October 23rd, 2016
@ivan All the best. And enjoy those trips.
October 23rd, 2016
@helenm2016 Sadly yes. But as it wasn't to be, long live marmite.

@365projectorgjenfurj @cruiser @shylaine3304 I am going to have to move quickly on. I'm getting hungry. Thanks for the ocmments.

Love Marmite! Great picture

I am a marmite fan, but would sacrifice it for a different political outcome. I wonder what the Americans would sacrifice for a different outcome?
