If you stop and wait, eventually the fields come alive and you start to spot a whole new world of characters going about their daily business. After some damsel fly watching and butterfly darting in the field and along by the river bank, I noticed this little fellow nosing around his chosen stem of grass and seemingly full of character. He wasn't that close by, so I was putting my zoom to the test in capturing this, and the other one in my main album.
My research pin points this as the nymph of a short winged ( or possibly long winged) cone head of which it is said: " It is a rather shy species and if approached too closely tends to adopt a ‘peek-a-boo’ defence posture, always trying to hide on the opposite side of a reed or stem from its observer, which can be both amusing and frustrating, especially if one is trying to photograph it!"
stealth and patience are amply rewarded in this fab shot.. love how you've separated the occupied stem from the forest of vacant stems, with your choice of DoF.. excellently done Helen.
@jorlam@onewing@lsquared I do confess to painstakingly selecting the little fellow in photoshop and bumping up the exposure and colour a little, just to pick him out from the background. I was unable to do this with the other shot as it would have been too difficult to pick him out. @stimuloog@haskar@domenicododaro@gaylewood@lynnz@moonmtn@dizzyd@toinette thank you everyone for your kind comments.
