It was inevitable that the enormity of the task of assembling our bedroom furniture would hit us, as soon as those boxes were unpacked.
With the realisation that if we were going to host guests from Japan in a couple of weeks time, this weekend would be our only chance to ensure that they had a modicum of comfort, we set forth last night to the task.
Things did not start well when the first item we unwrapped revealed cracked wood. Three hours later, all was unwrapped and counted.
Today we have been assembling. We have managed a degree of success - a successful day for us means that we are not about to initiate divorce proceedings!
So as the photograph of all the parts laid out in readiness for tomorrow's assembly task was not looking in the least bit 365 worthy, I took to the filters again. This time it was the emboss feature and lighting effects that have saved the day.
So tomorrow we try to assemble the wardrobe. All 367 component parts of it! See you on the other side.
you are far more brave than i am, tackling flat-packs is not my idea of fun either and i don't envy you one bit..
i like the processing - it's turned a humdrum image into a good abstract..
@wag864 thank you. Not quite yet at the other side, but still in one piece. @suzanne234 thank you Suzanne. Pleased to amuse! @kjarn thanks Kathy. It seems to strike a chord with many @moonmtn thanks. Not IKEA. I think that would have been a lot easier as things have turned out. @gaylewood cheers Gayle. Project currently on hold -we have done enough for one day. @adayinmallacoota thanks. We had pretty much bought it before we were told we would have to assemble it! @jorlam it was indeed a humdrum image - a challenge to make the many tiny parts in the least bit interesting. @365projectorgjenfurj atleast with IKEA you expect it. But this was not cheap furniture and we didn't realise we were going to have to assemble it until just before the deal was done. @redandwhite thank you Catherine. You are looking at a door hinge - in the limelight, and lots of small doweling pegs and some door knobs in the background.
What a task. We did this twice with some of our furniture. We assembled flatpack drawers and cupboards in the UK then had to take them apart again when we moved to Australia to save on space in the container. Once here we had a giant jigsaw puzzle of furniture to put together again.
@onewing I certainly do not envy you that task. This kind of furniture is not designed to be taken apart and reassembled. We still have the rest of the wardrobe and the bed to go - but one of the bed parts is damaged so we get a reprieve on making that. Hope it arrives in time for our guests!
I love flat pack but my other half and I work in very different ways. He reads and follows all the instructions, whereas I tip it all out and build it according to the picture and the parts I see there... I put this down to making many items of 'furniture' as a child with of all things - lego! We both drive each other a little crazy with our different ways of doing it, lol and it is definitely a one person job. I hope you manage to get it all done in time.
