Decay

The thing that stopped me dead in my tracks today, as I was walking, was the sight of decaying apples in the gutter. There is a challenge to do with decay, I thought, and not remembering whether it was macro or etsooi or mundane, I proceeded to try and cover my options with a few shots.

Bending down into the gutter on a busy road, with pedestrians passing by, is not the most inconspicuous activity and self-consciousness led to an unsteady hand.

In the end, with nothing more to chose from, I merged all three shots of the apples in varying stages of decay, to come up with an entry for the etsooi challenge. Some filters applied along the way. The result, I feel, is a bit like the curate's egg.
This is such an interesting image, Helen! Really quite captivating. Well done!

Not appealing to eat but more appealing in colour and design!

I can just imagine the looks you must have been getting, camera in hand, peering into the gutter to photograph rotting apples. Such dedication. The result, though, is outstanding. Well worth it - congratulations.

Mmmm...I love the soft tones but admit that my first thought was someone "lost" their lunch!

not sure how you processed this but it has a lovely painterly quality and the tones are so varied.

A very interesting abstract image with beautiful autumn colors! Excellent viewed on black! I had to chuckle after reading Taffy's comment. :-)

@taffy i thank you for your honesty.I felt there was something not quite right about this image, and I think you may have hit on it! I did go back to try again today, but failed to get a decent sharp image that doesn't need a lot of playing with.
