the time warp

It reminds me of photographs taken of my brother and us, by a photgrapher enthusiast (and eccentric) who used to visit our family when we were teenagers. He would process and send large prints which were always different to anything I had ever seen before. Always black and white and always a bit quirky. And always here - in the house where I grew up.

A very grainy result taken with a high ISO, but there is something I quite liked about it - it could be just nostalgia.

Im gearing up to trying to take a portrait shot or two this week - if I can find anyone that will let me - for the wild card week of the 52 week challenge. I would like to get better at them and despite starting this project two years ago, I still run a mile if someone wants me to take pictures of people.
ah that's a wonderful narrative, helen, and i think this portrait is charming. i really like your high key edit - brings us right into your subject and sets off his face so well. i do hope you'll find some willing subjects so that we can see more of your portraits!

this could be in a trendy magazine!

I like the result. The grain adds to the effect. Very good job.

You've done a great job with this portrait. It feels like something out of Life Magazine to me- a photojournalist following some well-known actor or writer around for a day capturing their studies and work. I'm faving it!

helen, this here is a really great shot and the processing does lend it some nostalgia. dreamy effect. of course it helps that the subject is eye candy.

I love the processing on this!!

LOVE show you’ve captured the light on him!

I love it too, your narrative is so interesting. There is something so nostalgic about this shot.

I like it.

Cool shot & photo. You’ve reminded me of a photo a friend took of us all - it was up for years but it got knocked off the wall last year and we haven’t reframed it- just get on to it!

* must get on to it....

Maybe its the hair style? I really like it...tells a good story (however inaccurate!) ... the processing has focussed attention on the essential elements. Fav

Your subject seems unaware of the camera, so a winner as a candid shot.

A great capture. Fav!! 😀. I'm always wary of taking shots of people

He's totally absorbed in his reading and you have an excellent photo to show for it. Beautifully processed too. Like you, I find portraits daunting. Much prefer to take them when my son (my unwilling victim) is unaware of what I'm up to. Good luck and I look forward to seeing your results.

Wonderful!

@pistache thank you Clare. I'm glad the high key edit seems to have the approval. I was racking my brains today and couldn't think of anyone I was prepared to approach for a photo. So I am empty handed today!
@kali66 I haven't been near any trendy magazines lately so I wouldn't know - but Ill take it as a compliment!
@moonmtn thank you Kahsia, I would have preferred less grain but am glad you think I got away with it.
@olivetreeann ooh, thank you for the kind comments. I will have to let him know - perhaps he should do some modelling! (I'm not serious).
@summerfield . I am really glad you liked it .
@shawnas365 thank you Shawna - for your comment and visit. The processing was a bit of a rescue mission.
@shesnapped thanks Ashley. yes the light falls well.
@onewing thanks Babs, I appreciate your comment. I am surprised others found it nostalgic too.
@haskar thank you Haskar.
@judithg glad to have jogged your memory. Hope you have fished it out by now and get it up on the wall soon. A good portrait of the family together is so valuable to have.
@yrhenwr thank you David. I am pleased to have your positive comments.
@redandwhite my subject was unaware of me entering the room with my camera, so I was in luck.
@carolmw Thank you very much Carol. it is so difficult isn't it? I haven't even worked out how to do it with the family well and sadly they are no longer often around.
@flowerfairyann thank you Ann for your kind comment. My son is also an unwilling victim. I have no idea where I am going to get another victim from!
@overalvandaan thank you :)

As always, a lovely narrative, I also like that your eldest still visits granddad, and I really like this shot of him. I think portraits are always much better when the subject is unaware.

This is completely fabulous and leads me to suspect the portrait-phobia claim. Go for more of these!!! awesome.

p.s. I find it completely embarrassing, myself. So I can relate. I manage to do some every once in a while, though I notice that the number of takes is usually VERY SMALL, as in, one.

Wonderful processing and as always, I love your narrative! :-)

Have to add another fav. A little giggle at your tag.

Well done Helen, I am still flaffing around with what to do for this one.... Good luck with getting some portraiture shots too, I have been trying to persuade my other half to pose for me, but he's not a very willing subject.

I really like the high contrast (is that the right thing to say?) and how some areas are burnt out

Very interesting processing, I like how some parts have almost disappeared.
