The trek to Hidden Vlei was chosen in preference to the more popular Dead Vlei in order to get away from the crowds. It is difficult to imagine crowds in the desert but Dead Vlei is the most popular destination in Namibia, known for its photographic dead trees set against coloured sands and white clay pan. I regret that we did not get to see this despite the threat of too many people.
However, our chosen route to Hidden Vlei had plenty to impress although in the end, the heat of the day limited my photographic endeavour. At 40 degrees and trecking through soft sand in the full sun, it seemed a bit like an army survival exercise but was every bit worth it. This is just part of the scenery along the way.
