Wooden Boat with seven People

An art installation at Spitalfields Market, visited yesterday, provided the texture required for continuing this weeks theme in flash of red challenge.

Wooden Boat with Seven People 2011
Wooden Boat with Seven People features an authentic boat that was used to transport refugees from Turkey to the shores of the Greek islands. The sculptural installation aims to reflect Spitalfields’ rich history of providing shelter for successive waves of migrants across the centuries.

What an interesting installation. ‘Our’ Ethiopian refugee-friend also came by (rubber) boat and stranded in Italy. On the flee his mum died and he was for a couple of month in a Libian prison. Abused and brused for life... We are trying to give him some love...

Great textures. Such a big close-up makes me feel one of these people.

This looks like a very interesting piece- the material alone has such great texture. I like the pov you've taken this from. It works well with the 'faceless" subjects.
