At £18 per person tourist charge, why not go on a Sunday and enjoy the choir and the dramatics of the ceremony at a Eucharist service? We did.
No photography allowed. (even if you do pay £18) So I had to be quick with my phone but as you see - the ceiling is magnificent.
I tried to take a couple more from under the dome but was told - in not uncertain terms - to stop despite the fact that everyone else was doing it. So I asked the doorman the reason for the policy. Apparently, it is to stop tourists being disrespectful in the way they take photographs - getting in everyones way with their selfie sticks and gathering in big school groups for a photo.
Shame.
I'm getting behind again. I do so hate it when I'm not on top of things here. But I know you are all so understanding when I don't manage to view everything.
you have captured the nave in all its glory. i had a similar conversation a couple of years ago. i was told the dean had tired of people being ott with selfies and selfie sticks and decided it was easier to ban photography altogether
Such a wonderful sneaky shot. I don't see why you aren't allowed to take photos in places like this either. I tend to think their excuse is a bit lame. I could be wrong but I bet there were postcards or books for sale with similar images. Probably designed to make you buy their postcards rather than have photos of your own. I guess I am just cynical.
Excellent and difficult photo. I liked your story. As uyou know I had the same problem in the concert hall, even after the end of the concert. In some Italian churches photos are allowed as long as you don’t use a tripod and a flash, of course.
